The table may be placed on either side -- your choice. Be aware that you must order the correct model for placement on the side of choice. ( " Right" will have the swivel post on the right of the seated person.)

Q: Can the table be moved (slid) closer to me when I put my legs up -- then pushed back out when I sit upright -- and still stay parallel to the chair?

Lance is correct. This must be used with a heavy chair. If you are talking about a recliner, it's perfect. I love mine. I keep my laptop on it and can easily push it aside to get up. The table top only pivots - it doesn't move forward and back. It will be farther away when you are reclining. How far depends on where you place the table in its starting position. I keep mine fairly tight when I am sitting up so it isn't uncomfortably far away when I recline.

Q: The total weight I'll be putting on this table = Computer 24 lbs + junk, keyboard, typing pressure 10-15 lbs. Will it work for me?

The weight limit for this table is 50lbs.

Q: Does it come in another color metal? The medicnal brown color is awful.

Not that I am aware of. A can of spray paint would work.
