Works as advertised. Price is insane for a fancy smoke alarm, but $90 is still cheaper than offered the alarm company. Another significant gripe is that these require programming with the central Honeywell panels. The current panels seem very easy to program but the older ones - not so easy. For the older ones, you need to pull the battery tab on the detector to get it working. Then, on the panel find the old one in the list. From there, you simply change the serial number on the existing entry, save, and close. This is easier said than done, but much simpler than making a new entry and deleting the old entry. It took the alarm guy 5 minutes to change 3 detectors (with a $79 min service fee). I guess I am just bitter that this unit is so expensive and I had to pay someone to install it.

This device has a 10-year sensor life.
I've used Honeywell's products for many years now. Their quality is consistent and they are easy to install and program into Honeywell alarm systems. This product used to have 7-year sensor life, now it's 10 years. What it means is that this device needed to be replaced every 7 years. Now it needs replacement every 10 years. It is a customer money saving improvement. Thanks Honeywell.

These things work great & fail one year after expiration date on back
These things work great & fail one year after expiration date on back. I bought a new one at $96 from Amazon. Don't think you can install it yourself no matter what the brochure says. I tried & failed & had to pay serviceman $85 to set it up. I have two detectors in my alarm system so I got both installed at same time but I had to buy the second detector from the serviceman at a price of $140.

Pricey but worth it!
Product arrived on time and as described. Product has a life span of 10 years. Mine expires on July 2029. I used you tube to program it to my monitored alarm system. Save yourself the money and program it using you tube, not difficult at all. The only thing I don’t like is the price, $100 is pretty pricey, but the piece of mind you get is priceless.

Expensive to buy and ridiculously expensive to install new ones.
I use these because the model came with the house I bought 13 years ago. The existing ones attach to a circular frame that is installed in the ceiling. The current ones have the same name and model number as the old ones, but they attach to the ceiling in a different way. Not only are these seven times more expensive than the other CO detectors in my house, now I have to have a handyman remove the old frames from the ceiling, install the new detectors, and repaint the ceiling. Honeywell should have the decency to give the new ones a different number, then explain that they are a replacement for the old 5800CO but require a different kind of installation.
