After trying a number of different valves, finally this one works. The others either have tread problems or just simple do work as designed.

3rd one I’ve ordered. They work great but scaling clogs them up.

What IS this thing?? Well, IF you want to be able to have hot water INSTANTLY at your faucet, regardless of where you are in your building, you’re gonna need a hot water recirculator to accomplish that task; but unless you have a THIRD return plumbing line, you’ll also need THIS handy thermal bypass valve. With this system, you not only have instant hot water, you won’t be WASTING WATER as you otherwise would by dumping it down the drain, waiting for the water to warm.So, how does this thermal bypass valve work?? You install it under the sink furthest away from your hot water heater, and when your water recirculator turns on, it starts to pump hot water down the hot water line, THROUGH this open thermal valve and then BACK UP the cold water line, returning to your water heater. The cycling of water continues UNTIL the hot water at the far sink reaches a set temperature, at which time this thermal bypass valve closes, stopping the cycling water.All I can say is, once you experience instant hot water at every faucet without having to waste water and wait for it to warm up, you’ll wonder why you ever lived without it. Is it a stretch to say this thermal bypass valve will change your life?? Hmm … no. Enjoy!(Note that any faucets that aren’t “in-line” (on the way) to this thermal bypass valve will need one of their own to get the full benefit of this system. If, for example, you have a kitchen that is in a T-shape, off of the main water line, you’d need to get a separate thermal bypass valve for that kitchen faucet, too.)

Just installed this to replace an "offical" OEM Grundfos part. I have to say the quality of the device appears excellent. The fit and finish are perfect, and, indeed, I didn't need to put thread tape on the threads of this one while my plumber had had to put thread tape on the Grundfos one to stop the dripping. No drips here. Just hand-tighten and a quarter-turn with the wrench.Importantly, the accompanying instructions and photos are very-clear, a real cut above the usual not-good-English instructions we are used to seeing with knockoff products. Also, I greatly appreciated a note in the instructions which suggested that you soak the old one you were replacing in CLR or similar, and patiently clean that old valve, because CLR will dissolve the calcium buildup which is the major cause of failure of these valves after a while. They're basically telling you how to create a free backup one, which is generous and shows that they know these products well. They also encourage you to call them with any questions and provide a number. Seems like a quality operation.

This product certainly looks like the actual brand Watts/Grundfos but it stopped working about 8 weeks after installation. It was past the return/exchange date so I contacted Watts Premier since it was their product. Unfortunately, they will not warranty product sold by unauthorized retailers, and this seller isn’t an authorized retailer. Bottom line is that I purchased this valve for an additional water loop and it stopped working soon afterward. The valve that came with the recirculating pump purchased at Lowe’s is still working fine 6-months later. As the saying goes “caveat emptor”.

I returned the valve. I was disappointed by the quality of what I received and ordered a different valve. This item appears to be too small.
