Because these laces are for athletic shoes, they are thicker than the laces found in grocery stores. They are round, not flat, and have a bit of "give" to them, they can stretch a bit.

Q: Will the darker colors bleed on white shoes

Not in my case - I used the dark blue laces with my white canvas Converse Jack Purcell sneakers and there has been no bleeding of color onto the shoes.
