I had a 12 ft length of closet shelf to put up at 80", and this laser was helpful. Before the purchase I wasn't sure if the 26" tall tripod would work when I tilted the laser line up to 80" height, but it worked fine.I checked the laser line with my level, and I used the manual setting on the laser and just tightened the tripod to hold that line. There is also a floating type of laser setting that automatically adjusts to continuously find a level within 4 degrees, but I found that setting caused too line movement on the wall. It was easier to just use manual setting, quick check the laser line with my level, and tighten the tripod.Then I just put blue painters tape on the wall, marked my drill hole pattern on that laser line. Drilled all of my holes through the blue tape.

Every DIY should have one. The tripod stand is tiny, so don't expect that to be of much value, but the level is great.

I checked several reviews for a line laser . This is one of the top brands . Received quickly and received a email from the manufacturer about the warranty even though I purchased through Amazon . Very bright green lines as we are doing tile work .

This does not work and is not self leveling. It just pulses and has no instructions that are easy to follow. This is being returned and I would never suggest this as even usable for any projects. Also despite the honest review this keeps getting removed so keep that in mind when reading other evaluations of the product.

This thing is straight up dog!

It's OK for indoors, outside, not so much, you'll need to wait until dusk to use it which is what I did.
