I love my charcoal grill, and so does my wife
This is the second Weber charcoal grill I have owned. I bought my first one 40 years ago and sold it when I was making a major move. Since then, I have owned 2 gas grills and have no intention of ever going back to a gas grill. Yes, they heat up faster, but they lack flavor. And the flavor is what I've missed most with the gas grills. I bought this grill, and I finally read Weber's "Art of the Grill." I knew I would need to buy a chimney to start my charcoal, and I also remember the saying, "Taste the food, not the fuel." If I had the money, I would buy one for each of my kids. They can buy their own charcoal!

The best of the affordable charcoal grills
This is one of the finest budget charcoal grills. Some background -- since 1995 I have been using a Char-Grill grill; it was outstanding until rust got it. This was a much BIGGER grill, with heavy cast iron grates, a swing-out gate to put in more charcoal, and a bottom pan to catch ashes. Easy enough to clean and worked well enough. When it bit the dust a few weeks ago, I was a bit hesitant to order the Weber. Looking at in person, it just seemed small. It *IS* smaller than the old Char-Grill I had. No side tables, either. However, all that has some advantages. I used it this past Mother's Day to cook ribs and chicken, and it came out fabulous.First off, there are no hinges to rust, and the grill itself is very lightweight, easy to move into the center of my yard where I always grill (away from the house). Assembly was easy, requiring a screwdriver and hammer (and in my case, a handy pair of pliers from my Victorinox Swisstool multi-tool -- assembly tip -- put the spring clips in the legs NOT in the leg receivers as shown in the assembly instructions). Total time, about an hour, one person, no stress. Once assembled, everything was solid.Compared to my old grill, the charcoal is closer to the food, and the heat directed much more towards the center. So my cook time was about 15 minutes less for the chicken (indirect method -- I heavily marinate the chicken) and about 20 minutes less for baby back pork ribs. The temp got a LOT hotter. No hinges and such make lifting the lid off a hassle -- make sure you lift off SLOWLY and rest on the hook. BUT that means one less piano style hinge avoiding rust out and so on. The thermometer is totally replaceable from Weber, as is the grill, etc. So if anything DOES break, you can replace it not the entire grill. That's a huge deal -- Weber has TONS of accessories for this grill which is very popular. Including center pans and grills for making whole turkeys and chickens. I plan to get that for Thanksgiving.Adding charcoal is easy -- just lift up the grill side plates and add it in. I'd advise if you are moving from a bigger grill, to adjust downward your estimate of how much charcoal you'll need. I'd add in the charcoal from your chimney starter and then just add as needed, if you have a drip pan in the center which I highly recommend. I added too much charcoal moving from my old grill and that was a bit hairy.Again, this grill burns hotter, with heat redirected due to the circular design, back to the center of the grill, and uses less charcoal compared to the rectangular shaped grills.Clean-up? Easy. Much easier than my old grill. The stainless steel grills are both light and small enough to fit (at least partially) in the sink and get scrubbed with warm soapy water. The top grill with grease and food required also some Kleen-King stainless steel/copper cleanser to get the stains off, result is fabulous. The ash catcher works great and the little sweeper does a nice job of removing most of the ash. I used a hose to hose out the last bit of ash and dried the inside off with an old t-shirt as ash is corrosive and we do get dew around here. The ash pot goes nicely in a trash bag and disposal of the ash is easy. You will want a side table with this grill. You can build your own or buy one at a hardware store. That's about the only downside I can think of.Really, this is a fabulous grill. Don't let the relatively small size fool you -- for three/four people it is quite sufficient. And if you need more space you can get the bigger grill or just buy two.

Webster gold grill
I purchased this for my son and his family. It was easy to assemble. They had it up and cooking that weekend. The grill was very nice. It has a nice color to it. It will last for years if you need to re-order part such as the fan portion on the inside that you rotate to get the old charcoal out it’s $11 and you’ve not spent anything on a new grill, you can smoke on the grill you can do cooking on the grill you can cook hamburgers on the grill steaks on the grill roast on the grill anything you want my preference when I cook on the grill to use the lump charcoal it makes a world a difference in the taste with lump. You don’t have to use any kind of charcoal lighter fluid . This grill takes up very little space. You will not regret getting this. I bought one for each of my kids and they love them. My grandson loves it.

Outstanding in every way.
I purchased this kettle 2 months ago and have grilled 1-2 times per week since then. There's not too much that I can add to the hundreds of other voices on here, but I'll give a brief breakdown of my experience (and what I think might help other purchasers):1. Out of the box, assembly maybe took about 30 minutes of half-hearted assembly mixed with conversation. Getting the legs on was the toughest part, but just be patient and they'll go one good and tight. I think I read somewhere about people moving after assembling this. You could, in theory, take it all apart again, but I'd plan on not doing that. At least I won't.2. Get a chimney starter. And get a Weber chimney starter. I picked one up from the local supply story, and it makes lighting my lump charcoal a cinch. One or two newspapers underneath, a full chimney, and you've got at least an hour of cooking (at whatever temperature you'd like).3. Get gloves. For a couple weeks, I used silicone mats (like the kind you put a hot plate on when you're serving it). I didn't burn my hands, but it just isn't comfortable. I picked up the US Forge 400 Welding Gloves (Blue) off of Amazon, and they've been incredible. Completely comfortable, and it makes shifting charcoal and anything else else heat-related painless. Between the two, you're looking at an extra $30 bucks or so, but it's worth it to enjoy the entire experience.4. Cooking is great. I picked up Weber's Way to Grill, and the recipes are delicious. Executing a good cook on is as easy as can be if you're willing to follow fundamentals a pay a bit of attention to what you're doing. The food I'm pulling off of this thing is some of the best grilled food I have tasted, and that's despite my best efforts, haha. The kettle makes things easy, and following recipes and learning the science of grilling goes a long way. (I grilled quite a bit about 8 years ago but stopped until I bought this kettle. So beginners and fanatics will equally enjoy this awesome kettle.)5. Weber customer service is outstanding. After a couple months, I noticed a couple of rust spots on the edge of the lid. I think in transport some of the enamel probably chipped off, and these are the rainy months in Virginia. It wasn't a big deal, but I didn't want it to damage the lid in the long run. So I sent an email to Weber. They responded within 3 hours or so, and let me know that a new lid was on the way. That was it.I've purchased hundreds (maybe thousands) of items from Amazon over the years. I've had poor customer service experiences with companies, and I've had a couple stand outs. This is one of the best. I already loved their product, and now I love the company. Can't recommend this kettle and this company highly enough. Give it a try. You won't regret it.
