I was very excited to purchase this piece to add to my Lotr collection. It arrived quickly and was packed well. I do love that it is a unique item. My only let down is that it is much smaller than I expected (it actually fits in the palm of my hand). Also, when you turn the handle to play the music, it doesn't quite play smoothly. However, I still like the piece. I just think they probably could have charged a little less for the item.

If you want the melody from "The Breaking of the Fellowship" track, this is not it. I noticed someone else in the comments said it's "The Ring Goes South" and I agree! It's definitely one of the more popular musical themes in the series, and one of my favorites. I'm happy the melody IS from "the Ring Goes South" but I wish the listing and the bottom of the music box werent misleading. The melody that the music box plays isn't too short as some music boxes tend to be. In case this matters to anyone else -- the volume difference is almost imperceptible if you compare the sound when you hold the music box in your arms vs when it's sitting on a table top. I sometimes like being able to control the volume, but since the drum/cylinder and the vibration plate are sitting on the wooden base of the box, the sound is louder. The box itself is of a decent quality - not smooth, so you can kinda see the wood grain patterns. The images aren't HD but pretty detailed -- Frodo in Rivendell on the outside cover, Gollum on the inside cover, the fellowship on the front panel, the eye of Sauron on the right, Gandalf facing off the Balrog on the left, and a closeup of the one ring on the back panel. The lid slides shut and has a tiiiny bit of resistance so that it doesn't swing open when flipped, which I like. Overall, a nice box, but it bothered me to no end that I couldn't place the exact track name at first because the listing threw me off xD

This Lord of the Rings Music Box has good graphics that are clear and colorful, and I love the Gollum photo when opening the box. The music box plays well when turning the hand crank. The song is NOT “The Breaking of the Fellowship” as advertised in the listing and product box. Technically, it’s the piece called “The Ring Goes South” which is when you first hear the Fellowship theme song after the company leaves Rivendell in the movie. It can be referred to as “The Fellowship Theme” which I’ve heard the composer, Howard Shore, refer to this theme as. I find it odd that the song this music box plays is very incorrectly mislabeled!This music box seems like something I would find at a souvenir shop; it is lightweight, very simple, and just printed with graphics from “The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring” movie.I am a huge LOTR fan and even though this is a very simple box, it’s fun to have in my collection. 4 stars.

I have this paired with my boardgame copy of War of the Ring 2nd Edition, and it's a requirement that if the Fellowship loses, they have to play this box.Five stars for nailing the assignment!
