The pens are easy to use and, at 800 uses per pen, the pens should last a long time. The fact that there's no alcohol to dry up means that the pen shelf life is probably in years.I don't know how often a clean would be needed, whether it's best to do so on a regular basis, or as required, or after a new connector is fitted. I suppose it depends on the circumstances. A connector that is regularly plugged / unplugged is probably more likely to attract dust than one where the connection is semi-permanent.

I was shocked when we had our fibre broadband installed how little care was taken during the installation.There was no attempt made to clean the fibre that comes in and terminates on the ONT.As a result the broadband speed is a lot less than I was expecting.There are two clicker pens provided each with a different diameter.I was always taught to click at least five times on other brand devices to thoroughly clean properly the end connection. I am unsure if this is required with this tool but with around 800 clicks there is nothing to lose?

These worked as good as the '4 times the price of these one' I previously used.Its not very often you need to clean the connectors of fibre. Normally they are assembled on install and never get disconnected. But very occasionally there will be a need to clean.The most common thing we have is engineers unplugging and replacing patch lead for what ever reason and not putting the dust covers on the unused patch lead end. So we had a pile of loose dust covers and a pile of loose patch leads. Just lazy practise. They then become dirty and end up being throne away.This morning I used these Cleaners and cleaned all of the loose patch leads, tested them, fitted the dust covers and repackaged them. Out of the 14 duplex leads only one lead failed the test. So these cleaners saved 13 leads being throne away.

Two pens as there are two types of fibre connection and each pen will work with one of these connectors.I can’t attest as to wether this will increase the performance of data transmission because I tested it on a connector which worked fine and I’ve not noticed a difference but if you have a fibre connector that has been unplugged and exposed to the elements for a while a clean with one of these I bet could make a world of difference.They work really well though, if you’ve tried using an air blower and that hasn’t remedied the problem, this would be a good next step.Simple operation, one click and it’s cleaned.Useful tool to have in a drawer incase you ever need it.

As the headline says Every fibre optic user for video and data should have in there tool kit. Cleans the ends of my LC connectors and Module's good enough and does show an improvement on a inspection camera and the self reporting on the switches. They aren't infinite use so you get about 700 runs on each pen but should be done every time you connect a fibre cable to a new port as even the smallest spec of dust or dirt can effect the quality of the signal received by the device and therefore effect the speed you get.

Does exactly what it claims to do, and is an essential tool in the arsenal of anybody who uses fibre optics. Worked as well as a much more expensive model that I've used previously. Recommended!

I ordered these as I find them to be much easier to transport than the bulky tape cartridges that I also have and they also clean inside the barrels.These optical cleaners clean LC and FC/SC which is ideal for me and they are colour coded and so I can see at a glance which is which.I can say they feel like they are cleaning to the same standard as my other fibre optic cleaners, in terms of quality, and fit but I don't have a microscope to test that.
