GREAT CLIPPERS - Worth every penny...
My original review, below, was mistakenly posted by me about a year ago as a reply to another review. It still stands below as originally written. These are Great clippers..Original post -I suspect that Rowdy, the original reviewer, being in the military, simply can't afford to get a haircut once a week at a unionized barber shop while he is pulling in military NCO pay. He probably paid for these clippers with his first two cuts at home over what he would have paid at a union shop. Rowdy was also a recruiter required to maintain a very high level of personal grooming for that job. Obviously he felt he could do so by using his own skills and these clippers.I am a retired military guy who understands Rowdy's reasons for buying these clippers quite well. I come to Amazon frequently to purchase wanted or needed items and have found Amazon's customer reviews of products to be very good way of determining what to expect in the performance of the products reviewed. As I was in the market for a decent set of clippers for myself, I must say that Rowdy's comments were instrumental in my purchasing a set of these clippers for myself for reasons similar to Rowdy's. My clippers are out for delivery today and I plan to write my own separate review of them in the coming weeks. Hopefully I'll find them to be as good as Rowdy says. Nevertheless, Rowdy gave a concise, rational review outlining his reasons for purchasing these clippers. That's why I decided to get them for myself.Meanwhile, John has spoken as would be expected from a true unionized-shop barber. I feel that John's comments are simply sour grapes which unfairly castigate a member of our fine military, whom John somehow presumes to speak for. It is my opinion that unions and some union members frequently attempt to speak for us "common folk" rather than allow us the liberty to speak for ourselves. We average citizens are quite capable of determining what products suit our needs and fancy, for our own reasons, without union assistance. I, for one, will typically choose a higher quality, less expensive, non-union product over one where I see the "union label" they used to tell us we should always look for. Frankly, I seriously question whether John would blow the bucks and actually pay for a union-priced haircut once a week if he were in Rowdy's circumstances. I certainly would not..23 August 2011This is a follow-up review to my initial review above. I have used these clippers for over a year now. I must say, I am VERY happy with them. I now regularly cut my own hair whenever I wish, without having to consider the high prices, short working hours, and slovenly arrogance of the barbers I've previously encountered in union barber shops when I was serving my country in the military. In fact, here in TEXAS, I suspect one would be hard pressed to even find a union barber shop since we are a RIGHT TO WORK STATE. Regardless, I have nothing but praise for these clippers and the attachments for them. Everything has worked great, cleans easily, and is there the next time I need to get my "ears lowered".. I also thank Amazon.com for making great products like this available to the public. I'd recommend these clippers to anyone looking for a good long-term value. These clippers will probably last me the rest of my life, which, hopefully, will not end for several more decades.UPDATE: 17 July 2016.. These clippers continue to provide excellent, trouble-free service. I continue to use them to cut my own hair about every 2 months. They are easy to clean and store until needed again.. They have paid for themselves many times over.. If they were to quit working today, I'd comfortably purchase another set immediately. This is another purchase from Amazon that has proved its worth over the years..

Great bang for the buck
Stop reading reviews and buy these. I've tried two other brands (Wahl and ???) and they don't even come close. I've had these clippers for about 4 years now and have zero complaints. I cut my hair and my son's hair frequently. They haven't slowed down at all. In my original review / writeup I had some concerns about the quality of the guards and the lack of case but as you can see from my updates below, neither of those proved to be an issue. In this day and age of cheap quality / planned obsolescence, it's rare to find a product that's built to last like these clippers.[EDIT] As of 3/16/2010 these clippers still cut like new. Great product. [/EDIT][EDIT] 8/9/2011 still cuts like new [/EDIT][EDIT] 10/28/2012 still cuts like new. Raising it to 5 stars...the guards still work fine, the lack of case hasn't been the issue I thought it would be, and I'd buy these clippers again in a heartbeat. After hundreds of haircuts, the original blades still go through hair like butter. Maintenance is easy. All I do is brush off the blades and put two drops of oil (comes with clippers) on them.[/EDIT][EDIT] 8/18/2015 still cuts like new. Same original blade. Does this thing ever wear out? [/EDIT][EDIT] 8/16/2023 15 years and they STILL cut like new. Original blade. Never sharpened (if that's even a thing). I've even been using them to shave when I want the stubbly look so these things get used quite a bit. [/EDIT]

Comparing Oster, Wahl and Andis clippers
(June, 2008). I am completely satisfied with the Oster Fast Feed clipper. It works perfectly, has minimal vibration and noise. It has no case, but the accessory guides fit and seem well made. I was able to get mine for less than $50, shipping included. Here are some general observations about buying clippers for reliable long life use. I needed a clipper to cut my (mens) hair fairly short. I researched the Wahl, Andis and Oster brands. The least expensive Wahl unit that seems to be currently made (assembled?) in the US and that consistently gets good reviews is the ChromePro. Some of the HomePro units get terrible reviews. I suspect the manufacturing of this line has recently moved overseas because some of the older HomePros models were well reviewed. The same seems to be true of Andis; some less expensive units get mixed reviews and the better-rated and more expensive units are US made. The Oster Azteq is made in China and has some negative comment about insufficient cutter travel. The Fast Feed and Salon Pro are the least expensive Osters with good reviews and, you guessed it, made (assembled?) in the US.I think, at this time, my recommendation regarding clippers is to seek out an American made product.Technically Wahl has the least expensive product to meet these criteria, but I have been using Oster clippers on my horses for years. Some of these units are 30 years old and still going strong, so I decided to pay another $20 to get the Fast Feed. You probably will need guides that restrict the length of hair that can be cut. I felt I needed at least a #4 (1/2"), #3 (3/8") #2 (1/4") and #1 (1/8" aka blend) guide. The clippers themselves have a built in guide that adjusts to provide the smaller sizes (000 to 0 or "shave" to 1/16th). If you are styling longer hair then you will need more guides. It makes sense to buy the guides at the same time as the clippers. All clippers should include oil and a cleaning brush. You will also need good scissors. If you are unsure about home hair cutting go to Google and search videos "how to cut hair". You can add in "Men" and "Self". There are many very informative videos on the subject. Some are pretty funny, too.Good luck and remember"It eventually grows back."Chris

Good clippers
I bought this clipper during quarantine and it’s been great. I decided to spend the extra money because it represented four trips to my barber, and I would’ve spent it anyways. The caveat is unless you are just giving yourself a buzz cut, you need a partner who is willing to help. So be prepared and patient for a couple of wonky haircuts while they are working it out. I’m lucky my wife put the work into learning how to cut a high fade. Now in 30 min I’ve got a good looking haircut that’s indistinguishable from a barber. The unit cuts smooth, doesn’t tug, and doesn’t get too hot. I needed to align the blade when I got it, and it took 2 min to find a screwdriver and 30 sec to adjust.I’ve had cheap clippers on the past, and the results were inconsistent and the process uncomfortable. These clippers are a huge improvement.
