This is a great hatchet with beautiful workmanship to boot
I've only have this for a few weeks and it is already one of my favorites. The handle must be the most comfortable design I've ever used! The palm swell actually tightens your grip as you swing. The grind seems to be a good compromise between felling and splitting which is what you want in a camp hatchet. It arrived with a shaving sharp edge and stayed that way so far, although I was only cutting green pine tree limbs and splitting a couple of nights worth of wood for a hot tent. The hatchet will come in a wooden box laying on a bed of reindeer fur (which I will likely use for fly tying material). It is supplied with a diamond hone and black leather axe head cover. If they decided to make a damascus version I'd buy another one. If you are looking for an heirloom quality hatchet that will last your life and then some, you have found it. Highly recommended!

Nothing beats Karesuando
Great little bushcraft axe/hatchet. The handle is very ergonomic and just looks beautiful. The head is Sandvik stainless steel which is very good. Chops very well. Bought 3 of these.

Could be great but quality control lacking
I really wanted to love this hatchet. It has all the right features to be an excellent camp tool. Overall, it is well made and the packaging is unique. However, it has a flaw that should not exist on something that has such a good reputation and costs so much. I certainly never expected to see it on a hatchet or axe. From the cheek forward, the head is warped to the left (looking back to front) about 3/16 to 1/4 inch, resulting in the entire cutting edge being offset that much. Not the best situation for accurate cutting. It will still work and is usable but very disappointing. I was going to return it for a refund until I found out the third party seller's return policy would have cost me 20%. Simply not worth it. I will keep it and use it but I am far from happy or satisfied.

Unreliable don't buy it
It broke in half the first time I used it. I was making kindles for my fireplace....WOW over $200 for this. Seller won't even respond to my inquiries.

Poor quality control. But second purchased proved better.
Not sure about their quality control. Received an axe with two pock marks in the metal / different spots. Contacted Karesuando and they confirmed that the axe should not have had those issues. I ended up returning. Possibly I received the one in a thousand units with an issue as I have read a lot of glowing reviews. If you receive an axe with no issues I believe you will be happy with it. Felt good in the hand and came sharp enough to shave. Loved the presentation pelt and that they supplied a diamond sharpener. Sheath was of good quality. Would have kept if not for the issues. Ended up with a Gränsfors Bruk wildlife hatchet.Update August 2019Ended up purchasing another one of the axes. Fit and finish was very good. Have used it on a couple of hikes and have been very happy with the performance. Was easy to resharpen after trips using only a leather strop. Guess the one I purchased prior was that one out of a thousand that made it past QC.

Wonderfully done product
I had high expectations for this axe and it delivered. It comes in a nice case with reindeer pelt, a small sharpener & case, and the axe with its sheath. You can see in the first pic that it comes nicely finished. I wanted to make it a truer mirror polish so I took some mother’s mag polish and did some polishing (only about 20 min max) and got it nicely mirrored (can still see some of the most pronounced grind lines).I also stripped the already razor sharp edge, and it is now truly scary sharp. It pops hairs off my arm. I am sure that is due to the steel as well. I am a big fan of this steel and have used it extensively with moras and the like so seeing a nice hand axe with it really drew me in. I’ll try to update with a use review in the future.

4 year review
So I have been using this sense 2018, at least once a week but often daily, and im rough with it, i use alot of recycled wood, so there are knots and nails and all kinds of shit and this little thing powers through. Ive given it a few good nicks from those nails ive mentioned, but they sharpen out well, and you wont have to worry about that if you dont use wood with nails in it.the nicks you can see in the blade in the photo are from this week and will sharpen right out.I was originally super concerned about the epoxy handle top, but it proved me wrong and has stayed strong. even the epoxy around the neck has stayed in place which was a nice surprise. It DOES NOT carry well on your belt, there is a loop but its to front heavy and will pull itself forward. but i carry it on my belt every time i use it but simply putting my carving knife between the belt loop of the axe and the blade of the axe and that fixed my problem. but if you don't have an additional something to wear there you might just be better off carrying it in a pack. The sheath has held up. as you can see in the photo the white threads got frayed, that was from a particularly rough camping trip, but it did not compromise the sheath and all the buttons have remained functional and in place which was another pleasant surprise. The bone base is a great addition, its taken some heavy falls but with that bone cap the handle was sparredThe handle to is very solid, ive banged it up quite a bit by just straight up missing what i was aiming for with the axe and its barely got any scratches, must less any compromising fractures or breaks. So yeah, 4 years down and going strong, for sure worth the money
