Garnier Nutrisse Permanent Hair Dye, Natural-looking, hair colour result, For All Hair Types, 8 Blonde

This is my go to hair dye. It mixes well, goes on easily and evenly and gives my hair a beautiful colour and shine that lasts. My hair is so soft and shiny after using and I always get compliments on it. The price is excellent as well.

I’ve tried lots of different brands of hair dye. This is always the best. The best colour, the best care and the best at dying my greys. It doesn’t drip at all, easily washes out and my hair is soft and shiny afterwards because of the oils within the dye. It doesn’t irritate my sensitive scalp. The dye easily wipes off any areas where it has accidentally touched like arms, face. The gloves are excellent quality, they have never split whilst I’ve used them.

Trying to get back to my natural colour as my son requested we “match for summer”. Started with a red that already had a lot of the colour taken out using Revolution colour remover a few weeks ago. So, as you can, see it was quite light already. After using the D+++ product it is slightly lighter but still has a strong orange tint despite using purple shampoo (bought separately) and the blue conditioner (included). I’m now going to run to the supermarket for an ash blonde and praying it will take out the remainder of the red. Irony is I will be going back to auburn in the autumn!

It gave my non grey hair a nice even colour. But it didn't touch the greys. I left on for 35 minutes and it didn't help. So a great colour if you don't want to cover greys.

Great hair dye. Even coverage

I was looking for a light to mid brown hair dye to cover less than 10 grey hairs that have begun to grown in the front & one side of my hair. The grey hairs that I needed to cover have a different texture compared to the rest of my hair. They are thicker & wire like. The rest of my hair is thick & comes just below my shoulders, so I purchased 2 packs of dye to ensure complete, thorough coverage. The instructions that came in the box were very simple & easy to follow so I had no problems there. The day before I dyed my hair I washed it using a cleansing conditioner & allowed it to air dry, without using any styling products or leave in treatments. My hair is in very good condition as I haven’t been using any products containing parabens, sulphates, silicones or petrochemicals for the last 3 years. I contribute the overall condition of my hair to ditching regular shampoos & conditioners & taking up co-wash/cleansing conditioners instead & blow drying 50% less of time. Therefore I was hesitant to dye my hair, with any kind of product, in fear of undoing all of that good work but I’d put up with the greys for as long as I could or should I say until the greys had become long! The other reason I was hesitant was because it’s a huge undertaking, once the cover up begins it has to be maintained, so that’s one more thing to add to the daily life list that you’re going to have to dedicate a couple of hours to every 6 weeks, to keep those roots under wraps & that’s not my idea of fun! In all honesty I very much doubt anyone else had even noticed that my hair had begun to age but it’s about how you feel & they’d started to bother me more than I ever thought a few grey hairs would. Following months of research & deliberation I decided that now was the right time for me to begin my anti-aging journey. Overwhelmed by the amount of “mid brown” shades to choose from I shortlisted them until I landed here. Price wasn’t a factor for me but I have to say the cost was very reasonable, particularly buying through Amazon. The instructions in the box were well illustrated, easy to understand & straight forward. There was no mixing or measuring & no other instruments or tools were required other than protective clothing. I put on an old t-shirt & brushed out my hair then I tied it up tight on my head, so that I could apply a barrier cream to the backs of my ears & lower neck without it coming into contact with my hair. Inside each box there was a pair of clear disposable gloves, due to an auto-immune disease I switched the disposable ones out for a pair of hyper allergenic. Next I secured an old towel around the top of my back, over my shoulders, before tying it off on my chest so that all of my skin & tee were covered. I broke the seals using the caps on both tubes & squeezed the contents into the developer bottles, before securing the nozzle lids & shaking them vigorously to mix the product thoroughly. I sectioned my hair into 9 sections, 3 across the front, 1 side, 2 middle (fringe), 3 side, then 4 middle (crown) 5 & 6 sides (tops of ears) & 7 & 8 bottom sides (nape) & 9 centre bottom (nape). I began to apply the dye using the nozzle at section 2 working front to back at the roots. I worked section to section, concentrating solely on the roots with bottle number 1. Once I’d covered all the roots down to the top of the mid length area, I began with bottle number 2, concentrating on mid lengths to ends. While I was using bottle 2 I left the first bottle stood upside down on the sink as I could feel there was a good amount of product still left in the bottom. Bottle 2 went on quicker than the first bottle as the application didn’t need to be so precise. As I came towards the end of the bottle I turned it upside down on the sink & left it to settle while I dragged my fingertips through the lengths of my hair to evenly spread the product. I took bottle 1 & spread the remainder through the roots. It was impossible to get all of the product out of the bottle using the nozzle, so I removed the lid, firmly tapped the bottle top on the palm of my gloved hand & repeated the motion several times until I was happy I’d used it all up. I spread the remainder on the back of my head roots. I took bottle 2 & repeated but spread the remainder of that bottle on the mid lengths & ends until it was empty. Had I not removed both nozzle lids I’d have wasted a large percentage of product so I can’t stress enough how important this step is, particularly if you’re using one box & it’s your first time, it would be easy enough to assume you’d ran out of product. With all of the product gone I was able to comb through all of my hair with my fingertips until I was content with the application. I took the lengths of my hair & loosely piled all of it on the top of head & started the timer. As I was intending to cover grey hair, as per the instructions, I added additional time to the regular developer time & set it for 35 minutes. It went by quickly & thankfully there weren’t any of the awful chemically, headache inducing fumes I remember from way back when my Mother dyed her hair! Once the timer was up I hung all of my hair over the basin & turned on a steady flow of warm water & began rinsing out the product. As the water flooded the roots, I rested the hose on the side so that I could massage the roots using both hands. I did this for a good 5 minutes to avoid any irritation to the scalp post procedure. In order to get the water to run clear, it took a good 10 minutes of rinsing. I really wasn’t keen on using the conditioner that came with the dye but in my quest for a perfect result I decided I needed to fully commit to the process & follow the instructions to the T. I applied it all over, combed it through with a wide tooth, wooden comb, waited 5 minutes then rinsed thoroughly for another 5 minutes. I finished on a quick blast of a cool rinse all over. On wringing out as much water as possible I proceeded to wrap it all up in a hair towel turban. I went off & had a coffee in order to allow the towel to soak up any access. I removed the turban, combed it through to the roots & allowed it air dry until until it was 70% dry. I applied an argan oil serum to the mid lengths & ends & 3 golf sized balls of styling mousse, raking the product through my hair with my fingertips as I went for even coverage. I then scooped up sections of my hair into my hairdryers diffuser bowl & dried my hair in sections as I ordinarily would. To achieve the volume I like, once it was 90% dry I sprayed the roots in sections, starting at the bottom, using a strong hold, volumising gel spray. I diffuse dried it until it was completely dry then went over it all using my hairdryers cool shot button to set my style. I finished off my hair with a light, flexible hold finishing spray. On seeing the finished product my first thought was it’s so dark??… I was disappointed with the frizzy texture at the crown of my head & amongst the ends that I could only attribute to using the conditioner because I hadn’t had this result in years. When I went to the bathroom mirror so that I could examine the roots at the front more closely, I was further disappointed. There were 2 greys showing at the front & 2 in the side & given I was only trying to cover several at the front & side this was a rather pathetic attempt. I’d followed the instructions to the letter, my timings were exact & my hair’s condition & preparation were perfect so the end result can only be due to the products quality & performance. That brings me to the actual shade itself “Nude; Light Brown, 6N” it sounds & looks like, from the products illustrations on the packet, a perfect shade for light to medium brown hair types, only it isn’t. For a start the shade, in reality is in the mid to dark brown category. This is a fact not a perspective because shop/packet dye doesn’t have the capabilities to change a hair colour from dark to light without using a lightening product/treatment prior to application. No one in or out of the beauty industry has or ever would, consider my natural hair colour as dark brown yet now I have dark brown hair… go figure! The only thing difference anyone has noticed about my hair since I used this product is the actual colour! Everyone who’s commented has said “oh I like your hair darker” or “you’ve decided to go dark I see”, literally every comment included the work dark or darker. As I politely smiled & nodded inside I was so annoyed because the last thing I wanted to do was go darker because it ages me. The natural mousy, mid brown tones suit my complexion but now they’ve gone, covered in a dull dark brown. The packet states in huge bold letters, right underneath the branding “100% GREY COVERAGE” Then on the reverse of the packet it states that when covering greys, the coverage result will be a lighter shade of the main colour result, because grey hair is lighter to begin with. Makes sense but I can testify that the grey hairs I was trying to cover have not changed colour in the slightest, they’re as grey as when I begun. As for the 100% coverage that’s utter nonsense, I was trying to dye less than 5% of hair, less than 10 strands to be precise & not ONE of those strands remotely changed colour?! The worst part about this escapade is the damage it’s done to my hair, honestly I can’t stress the difference in texture & the lack of shine. Three days after I dyed it, I washed it using my regular co-wash product & it’s gone a little way in improving the frizz caused by dry & damaged hair but it’s desperately lacking the lustre I’d achieved over time but I’m hoping, judging by the results from one regular wash, I can regain control over the battle against frizz by using my natural products. Garnier’s outrageous claims for “up to 8 weeks anti dryness” & “3 times shinier brown” are beyond disparaging & totally misleading. I expected so much more from a global brand & market dominator like Garnier. It would appear they have a long way to go when it comes to, not just colour result, but also ingredients & formulas. Had the colour came out to my satisfaction I still wouldn’t be repurchasing based on the condition of my hair. If it meant I had to mix & measure the formula at home, or the development/application time was longer, or the price point was much higher, I’d take one or all over the damage this products inflicted on my hair. Price didn’t even come into it for me when I was looking for a permanent home colour, this just happened to be the closest shade to what I was envisioning. Goodness knows how long I’ll have dark brown hair for?! I guess I’ll have to wait that part out. All in all I cannot find an aspect worthy of a recommendation for this product. My advice would don’t be tempted by the colour, it isn’t what you get so search elsewhere! Good luck & happy hair days!
