The core emphasis on Mazzy Star's second album, So Tonight That I Might See, remained a nexus point between country, folk, psych, and classic rock all shrouded in mystery, and Hope Sandoval's trademark drowsy drawl remained swathed in echo. The hit single "Fade Into You" brought Mazzy Star unprecedented success.

An indie rock masterpiece
Mazzy Star occupies a unique place in indie/alternative history. The group meshes together elements of classic rock, particularly Velvet Underground, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, with the more ethereal qualities of shoegaze groups like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Jesus and Mary Chain, albeit more subtly.“So Tonight That I Might See” is easily the groups greatest work. “Fade Into You”, “Into Dust”, “Five String Serenade” and the title track are brilliantly haunting. Hope Sandoval’s voice against the folksy, ethereal instrumentals is a combination that rivals that of peanut butter and jelly. I whole heartedly recommend this album for fans of Velvet Underground, Jesus and Mary Chain, Slowdive, Neil Young, Wilco, Bob Dylan’s mid to late sixties output, Rolling Stones, Cat Power, or anyone with an open ear.

Mazzy Star's Greatest Hits
Somehow I only very recently discovered Mazzy Star when Youtube put one of their videos up for me to view. I immediately liked them and have watched a lot of their songs on Youtube both album recordings and live performances. Got their three 90's albums. This one though to me I call my Mazzy Star greatest hits CD. Because literally all of my favorite songs by them are on this CD. Not that I don't like the other 2 from the 90's or even some of the newer stuff. I was never into the whole 90's music scene and am kind of a classic rock and acid rock and blues rock fan. About the only 90's group I liked was Nirvana, especially certain of their songs. All that being said, this group is very creative to me and there is some kind of magic in the way David and Hope put songs together. I love all of her lyrics and her vocal style, and also love the way he writes music that just fits her so perfect. If you like Mazzy Star at all, this would be the CD to start with. Then the other two from the 90's. Then other stuff such as their last Mazzy Star recording which I don't have yet but will. Their songs are slow, definitely have psychedelic influences and Hope Sandoval is fantastic. Fade Into You was the hit and yes it is a great song but my personal favorite is Into Dust. That song just gets to me somehow.
