Q: How do you know charging is finished, doesn't appear to have a charging light?

We’re sorry there was no sheet available, please allow me to answer yours questions to the best ability possible. The batteries require a charge of at least 4-6 hours. However the batteries are fitted with an embedded fuse & heater element which usually prevents any overcharging on the lithium batteries provided. The batteries vary from the brightness you’re outputting them at. Generally speaking low bright will/should be around 6hours. Where as full bright will be 4hours. The batteries should remain inside the unit when charging. We do not recommend using the light whilst switched on & being charged at the same time; as this ultimately damages the lithium batteries as the volt output to input can cause overheating & therefore damage the batteries inside.

Q: Just switched it on and batteries are roasting hott are these batteries faulty

If you only just switched them on, maybe. They do heat up but not straight away so change the batteries.

Q: Can they be permanently fixed? I'm looking to for a bright light for my large cupboard under the stairs.

I would say they can be but you would be better off with a security light which automatically switches on and off. Otherwise you need to twisted this through 150 degrees to switch the light button on or off, and also to change batteries. Yes its possible but slightly awkward.
