However, the main reason for buying this, motorised, version rather than a much cheaper static version was to demonstrate that the closer a planet is to the Sun, the faster it orbits. There are separate gear rings in thew 'tower' for each of the eight planets so I expected all eight planets to rotate around the fixed Sun at approximately their correct speeds relative to each other. They don't. The four 'inner planets' are on a single gear and so move at the same speed and there is then a second gear to which the four 'outer planets' are fixed so they too move as a group. The instructions advise that this is intentional (there are only two groups of orbits, not eight separate orbits) but that isn't made clear on the sales advert. Indeed, the sales picture clearly shows eight gear rings so what's the point of that if there are only two orbits? It somewhat defeats the purpose of having a motorised model.The star projection is fuzzy ad difficult to see, even in the pitch darkness.The booklet that comes with the product is pretty good and is much more than just a simple set of instructions.Is it worth the money?
