A planted aquarium with the mini seeds as starter
The media could not be loaded. When I moved my goldfish from a 10 gallon tank to a larger one, the smaller one was available for me to experiment with a planted aquarium. As I didn't have any experience, I did a lot of internet searches. Here is my setup.I prepared the substrate by adding one to one half inch of Miracle-Gro Organic Garden Choice Garden Soil, covered with half inch of coal slag (Black Diamond).6/5/2023 I scattered some long hair seeds over the substrate; (I should have sowed the mini leave seeds first!)6/9/2023 Long hair seeds already sprouted. I scattered some mini leave over the substrate; A 13 watt LED light was put on top of the tank.….. I sprayed water over the substrate two or three times a day but did not submerge the seeds under water.6/22/2023 the long hair plant had grown very long and could not stand on its own. I added water to submerge the plants. (photo 1, taken right after adding water)9/03/2023 all long hair plants had melted by the time, but the mini leaves were thriving. Some other plants have been added. (photo 2)11/08/2023 Add 6 neon tetra in the tank. (the video taken 11/30/2023)Today is 12/15/2023: The tank has never changed water. Filter has not been used. A heater was added last month. Water parameter has been steady and good. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate levels are near zero. Maybe thanks to the snails (carried to the tank with purchased plants), the tank glass is clean. In summary, the mini leave seeds are great for a beginner to set up a planted tank. Once it grow taller, it spread on its own. Even without other plants, mini leaves alone make a viable and beautiful planted tank. The long hair grass did not last long, but when it did, it was pleasant to watch it grow. There is no need to dig out its root after it melts out. The bacteria and snails will do the cleaning up work.

This is NOT high quality product
When I got the seed packets, I noticed that there are NO specific (latin) description of the contents - so these are kind of "generic" seeds...who knows what's really in there! Are these grass seeds Eleocharis Montevidensis, Eleocharis Arcicularis, Eleocharis Parvula, Echinodorus Tenellus ... or something entirely different? Who knows? And the low ground cover plants are even more of a mystery. The grass seeds DID grow/germinate, but the seeds were full of fungus/mold spores, which grew nearly as fast as the the grass. The ground cover did NOT grow/germinate at all. And as I read more reviews (which I should have done before purchase) I discovered that some people who DID get them to grow, discovered that they are not really a short (under an inch tall) ground cover, but rather a leafy invasive water weed that grew to 2-4 inches tall.Apparently (as I have eventually learned) the high quality DSM ground cover plants that we expect ARE NOT AVAIBLE AS SEEDS in the market - you have to get them as starts.I am removing my substrate now, and going with a higher quality source. Live and learn!ONE MONTH LATER ------Both the grass and the ground cover DID grow. I added water when the grass was about 4 inches tall, and the ground cover was about 1/2 inch tall. The grass continued to grow fast and pretty tall - then it turned transparent and yellowish, so I pulled it and planted guppy grass - instead of replanting with grass seeds. The ground cover (some of it) continues to grow, and it is about 2 inches deep now, and extremely thick. But, it is delicate - snails leave trails through it and if i bump it with a tool big chunks float off. It also spreads ALOT - not like a vine, but rather little bitty seeds and/or plants float around and begin to grow everywhere - even on the glass! I have removed about half of it after I had to re-run an air hose under the gravel - it was easier than expected to remove.Bottom line - both of them grew, but after about one month, all of the grass and half the ground cover have been removed,

Worth the Wait!
The carpet seeds are tiny and were stuck to the packaging due to static electricity. I was able to get most of them out though. The long grass seeds were easier to work with and grew faster. To start the growing process I saw several different methods people used and I kind of just did my own thing. I used pool filter sand as my substrate instead of aqua soil. I just had to rinse it thoroughly. Then I placed the decorative rocks I had in the tank and sprinkled the seeds around them. The small seeds are STICKY once you get them wet.I do think that the seeds germinated quicker because I misted them with a mixture of Flourish and water in a spray bottle. I also kept the tank covered to prevent the seeds from drying out. A lot of light was needed as well (most suggested 12-15 hrs daily), I used an overhead led aquarium light and kept it on 24 hrs because I’m home all day and can keep an eye on it.I planted a couple of seeds close to the front of the tank so I could see how far the roots were. Then I would know when I could add water and balance out the tank for the fish. Everything looks great and we’ve gotten a lot of compliments on the progress in such a short amount of time. Would definitely buy again.

Definitely grows.. but then dies.
** 2.5 months update: the short leaf plant is still alive & still growing! They do not stay short, in some parts of my tank I have trimmed them & some parts I have let it grow tall. I will attach an updated picture.Despite some of the other reviews I decided to try this. Both seed packs grew, 99% sprouted. I did the dry method, covered the tank with plastic wrap, sprayed the tank 2X a day. The long grass definitely sprouts much faster than the short one so I would suggest planting the short one a week before the long grass & by the time the long grass is fully sprouted the short plant will be established & ready for water. Both where healthy & growing beautiful, however 2 weeks after filling the tank with water the long grass started to melt, only a little bit at first but by week 3 it was more & more. Now almost all of it is yellow & starting to completely die, so I’ll have to pull all of it out so I don’t have an ammonia spike 😕. The short grass is still healthy & getting bigger with long leaves on it so I don’t think it will look like a cover like it’s pictured but I personally don’t care as long as it doesn’t die too but it doesn’t look like it’s going to. The short plant is pretty hardy, I have Cory fish in this tank & they like to sift the substrate and the plants that where completely established have stayed in place. The short plant seeds have a sticky coat on them when they get wet so once they get wet your not moving them which is cool because they grow really good on rocks, driftwood & decorations, just make sure you want them there! So I would buy the short plants again but NOT the tall grass! (Maybe it will grow half in water half out but it definitely doesn’t stay alive fully submerged) Also will add I used this in a 55g tank & still have half a bag left of the short plant & maybe 1/3 bag of the tall grass left over.

Depends on what your after
The reason I say it depends on what your after is all do to this.Lets start with that picture! That shows a taller grass in the back and short round leaf for all the rest. The grass in the back is all you should expect to see.Yes, you will see round leaf plant for the mini leaf only for the time it comes out of the seed and for about two weeks after. As long as I had that seed in a swallow tub. With out the proper lighting. That didnt allow it to grow.Which no one wants to do .Once this seedlings are into a real fish tank.Look out, as then it will really start to grow. Providing you use and take good care of your setup.Meaning the right water conditions I use co2 injected and I use the right fertilizers for all my aqutic plants.Being a good root plant tab and a liquid fertilizer as well..And let the fish take care of the rest. What you will end up with out of the so called mini leaf. Are a minimum of four different type of plants.Which not one is a small rounded leaf ok.They will be both broad leaf and much larger than shown in any pic that Ive seen. Some so large they will reach the top of a 29 gallon tall which is a full 20 inches ok in a matter of one or two max months. Then that plant will start to grow branches out and all have roots being handy. So depending on what the needs are and not what your lead to think. Will be what you get.AS for the restI couldnt tell you what type of plants they are.I dont know my water world plants ok.I know what I like and why I bought this package.Sure wasnt at all what Id hoped or thought I was buying. The sole reason why I didnt give this a bad review or less stars.Happens to be do to the fact. For those who like aqarium plants like I do.Know there not cheap! And they take time and money to grow. This is your best ticket away from that.AS long as your not picky then buy this pack those who are may not like it.You can keep it all short by constent trimming.Remember the word constent. Now as for that grass I couldnt say.IT will germinate fast and grows very well while in a tube with out much water and the sun for light.Grows to like 5 inches .Thats all I will say other than this.Once I placed it into my aqarium.IT didnt do at all well.Unlike other review I read who had good luck.Mine started dying right away and after the fourth day I pulled it out.Mind you I have great luck with all my aqarium plants.Grow like crazy and the rest I bought from petsmart in a plastic tube.I never ever thought would do as well or look as good as they all have done.I should add.YOU must use a good quality plant substrate also for the roooted plants.Note not all will be rooted even though they may look it.So know what your doing with your water plants. So you know about what to expect from the small box with plenty of seeds IF your on a budget and have about five months time.YOu can use this seed and easily fill up two 55 gallon fish tanks in tall full plant life.As long as you use injected co2 setup and plant fertilizer. That much I do well know. You may want to work with this and separate as they grow. Just dont expect small round leaf plants as that wont happen. The grass seed Id plant in the yard lol.I guess it will work in the tank with ALOT of good light. At the same time expect alot of algae! You cant get one without the other .As expected light and fertilizers and water equal algae.Lots and all types of it.So for those who do get all for a serious algae crew.Ottos small sucker fish and snails and shrimp cherry shrimp and amano ok. Amano shrimp kick butt for algae as do cherry those are second and placed this way for a reason. GOOD LUCK
