Style Me Vintage: Tea Parties: Recipes and tips for styling the perfect event

A beautiful and useful book if you like tea parties!
This is such a fantastic book! I ordered if after reading the Weddings book in the series. I've been dying to have a vintage tea party, so when I saw this, I knew I had to have it. I was not disappointed. The book is informative, well written, and contains some delicious ideas for food! I cannot wait to finally throw a tea party of my own! I have since started collecting more pieces so that when I do decide to have one, I will be ready.

Pretty book, bought as a gift so can not give a true review. But very happy with choice.

Beautiful book, but not quite what I was expecting
This is a beautiful little hardcover book with lovely pictures inside. With that said, it's not quite what I was expecting. For the price, it would have been nice to have included more recipes. I also have to agree with the previous poster, who stated they would have liked more of a checklist format or step by step guide for planning tea parties.

Style me Tea Party
This is actually part of a book series and as the title suggests, this concentrates on Tea Parties. The book is almost square being 2/3 A4 size and has 144 pages. The first four pages are basically background biographies etc, the real book starts on page 10-21, featuring organisation, invitations, themes and sourcing items, Invitation etiquette and planning checklists. The remainder concentrates on 6 themes, each representing a particular era or decade ranging from Victorian to 1950s. Each section starts with a basic background or scene setter and runs through setting the table, how to dress, entertainment ideas and some more specific topics that compliment that particular section, whether it be how to make a perfect cup of tea or how to dance the Charleston. A sample menu is given at the start of each section, recipes then usually appear on the left page with a photograph on the right. Recipes are ‘themed’ to each section, thus there is no cumbersome index at the end, which thus makes for a smaller book. The cover has a useful linen texture which means it offers a good grip if reading and cooking at the same time! Covering many ‘basic’ topics such as making sandwiches and a cup of tea, it also offers some good advice that can be taken even if not throwing a party such as etiquette, what RSVP actually means and how to read invitations [not as simple as many would expect], how to dance and much, much more.Originally published at £9.99 in 2012, I picked up my copy for £1.55 and even at full price this is an ideal source of inspiration, and lets face it, most people will only host one gangsters and molls speakeasy event, but this gives enough info for you to amend the events to suit your needs, although prohibition night might sound a bit boring so perhaps as an afternoon tea…. That might work. If you want to gear up your days and add a bit of variety, this is definitely worth a chance, but somehow I felt it seemed to be a bit light and over too soon, yet it deserves more than a **** so just gets a *****, mainly for its detailing in the preparation of your event, its clarity and ease of layout.
