Q: is there a battery? is this direct replacement for FG-715?

There is no battery... it's hard wired... can't help on the direct replacement for FG-715

Q: How do I loosen and remove the wires? Mine is beeping and I want to disable it.

It most likely is not the unit beeping. there is a screw on the bottom that will allow the cover to open and the wires will be there

Q: Will this work with the Elk M1 Gold?

It will work with any alarm control panel that has 12 vdc aux power. Alarm relay has n/o and n/c connections. Range of coverage is 30 ft line of sight,any window treatment will shorten coverage.
