Q: Do you need couplers, or could someone like me who would use these rarely for home baking be able to get away with just a bag?

Hi,Just a bag would work fine, the advantage of couplers is to change tips without using another bag. Sometimes this is helpful, sometimes not. Example if you are using 2 colors of icing you will need 2 bags and a coupler is useless. However, if you are using 2 or more tips with one color the coupler will save bags.
