Lives up to its ranking by experts
I watched a number of YouTube reviews by experts that ranked pens in different price categories. This pen was one of the tops in all reviews, and I agree. I did order the fine point, and for my preference, it was a little "finer" than I had anticipated. A medium point replacement was reasonably priced and that is what I am using now. I liked it so well, I gifted one to my son to introduce him to the joy of writing with fountain pens. (This is one of 5 that I own).

Designed and engineered with the user in mind
It’s appreciated the level of engineering and design which went into the design of this pen. It’s clear Lamy went to great lengths to manufacture this pen to the high standards of their customers. It’s also convenient to have nibs which are replaceable. Thanks Lamy!

Looks good, writes smooth
In addition to this pen, I also own the LAMY LX (medium nib). Both pens are smooth writers. I like the grip and can write for a long time without getting tired. I don't like the blue ink cartridge that comes with the pen and use a converter. The converter is sold separately and I highly recommend getting one. There are plenty of different colored inks that you can add to your collection. The only other pen in my collection that outperforms this pen is the TWSBI Eco. I do not regret buying this pen.

this Lamy doesn't feel right
I've bought many Lamy pens before and I've come to respect their construction. This on the other hand doesn't feel quite right. The shaft feels hollow like it's going to break at any minute if I apply any pressure and there's a rigidness to the writing as opposed to the L14F models (the ones WITHOUT the clear shaft) which feel STRONG and SMOOTH to the touch. The nibs on the L14F models feel very fluid on any surface while this one is very rigid. I can't make a circle without listening to the nib scrapping the paper like nails on a chalkboard. It just feels gross. I don't know why I spent $33 on this pen when the L14F model is only $18. I just thought this one would feel "FANCY" but it FAILED. :(

Unbaetable performance, aesthetic design and value!
Ocean Blue is a beautiful metallic blue color. Built like a tank. I have three colors now. This is one of the best pens ever made, even compared to pens with gold nibs costing a lot more. I especially like it with the black rubber grip section from the Lamay Joy AL. Nibs are swappable so you can easily have multiple widths. Such a great pen! I can't wait for the 2016 special edition metallic colors to come out!

Just as I hoped
Perfect gift for my spouse. The seller turned out to be an official retailer of Lamy so I was really pleased about that. This pen is perfect for beginners who want to get a really nice pen and not drop a ton of money for one.

Great starter fountain pen
Pro's- It's an aluminium Lamy (similar to a safari) that has an iconic German design.- large select of easily changeable nips.- Little window to see remaining ink- Writes very well especially if you like the indentations on the grip of the pen. (I'm comparing this to mainly to Kaweco Sport, TWSBI Eco, Diamond and noodler's range)- A very good entry level fountain penCon's- IMO alittle pricey compared to some other similar pens - but you get what you pay for.- Had an issue with 2 nibs (out of about 20 lamy nibs I own) before which may be more of an issues with italic nibs >1.1- Lamy use their own ink cartridges and others won't work- You have to buy a converter separately (these are very easy to use to convert the pen to using bottled ink - if you're not using bottle ink I really recommend it!!)- Clip on the lid can break easily and then waddles about :(- I didn't get the burnt Orange limited edition one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'(Overall - 5 stars in gothic front - great pen - get a converter and try out the different nips for it!

Great pen, similar to the Safari.
I love my Lamy Al-Star! I'm a fan of the Lamy Safari and wanted to try the Al-Star. I ordered the medium nib but accidentally was sent the fine nib. I ended up keeping it rather than returning for the correct product because I was really happy with how it wrote. I'm not normally a fan of a fine nib but it wasn't very different from the medium. The nib is exactly the same in the Al-Star and the Safari, the only noticeable difference is the barrel. Rather than the plastic barrel of the Safari, this had a metal (aluminium, I think) barrel. The colours offered are metallic too. I really like this as a change from the Safari and will buy again.

Nice fountain pen
I really like the Lamy fountain pens and own several different nib types, this fountain pen writes very well, the ink flows really nicely and the medium nib flows nicely across the paper. The pen can accept either the Lamy cartridges or take the Lamy Z28 converters which can be filled direct from an ink bottle.

Good writer
I have tried a few of the "not too expensive, good review" pens available through Amazon. So far, these Lamy pens are my favourites. Maybe slightly "1970s" design to my mind, but the ink really runs smoothly through the medium nib. I use a lamy ink converter so that I can have a wider choice of ink and colour.

Write with style
I am a professional writer and I need a reliable and robust pen that will go the distance. This is a very attractive pen with a nice nib and has become one of my favourite tools of the trade. There are broadly two types of fountain pen--the fancy ones with gold nibs and the practical ones designed for getting the job done. This is a practical pen but also looks stylish. It is also a decent size for an adult. For a writer, it is ideal. So these pens are certainly not just for school kids.
