InterluxIVA316/1 Cetol Natural Teak Varnish - Gallon

It's a product that outlasts other similar products and looks better too. It's pricey, but I think you get what you pay for.

I purchased an old, grayed out teak table with 6 chairs. The furniture was extremely high quality but had not been touched for at least 30 years. It was rickety and completely gray. After the restoration, the furniture is absolutely stunning!! If you were to buy a set like this brand new, it would cost at least $4,000. I paid $350 on craigslist and saved a fortune restoring it myself! Here are the steps I took. #1 power wash, #2 sand completely with 80, then 120 grit sandpaper, #3 vacuum sawdust particles off and wipe gently with a slightly damp rag, #4 apply 3 coats of Sikkens Cetol Marine Natural Teak, allowing a minimum 24 hours between coats, #5 apply 2 coats of Sikkens High Gloss, allowing a minimum 24 hours between coats #7 allow everything to completely dry for about 3 days (longer in humidity) #7, grab a cold beer or glass of wine and sit back and admire you work! It's a little bit of work but completely worth every hour I put into the restoration!

All I can rate so far is the application and initial result. Very pleased so far with results on my teak patio furniture. The color is a bit darker than "natural" on my teak, but looks good without unpleasant orange cast. Somewhat shiny without the optional clear coat additional product. Cetol product doesn't appear to separate much (if at all) in the can so stirring is minimal. Applies easily and seems forgiving in terms of brush strokes, wind blown debris, etc. If you don't keep a good "wet edge" there can be blobs and streaks, so it seems you need to go start-to-finish on a particular piece of furniture. Must avoid temptation to rush ahead with additional coat before allowing complete 24 hours of drying time. But subsequent coats definitely improve the look without deepening the color noticeably. Certainly this is way more work than a quick power washing and a wipe of teak oil, but hopefully the durability will make it worth it. Boat owners say it should last,a and I have my fingers crossed.

After experiencing severe issues with incompatibility between the new PPG/Sikkens Cetol SRD and older Sikkens Cetol finishes, I made a trip to my local marine hardware store to see what they use on boats - and discovered Sikkens Cetol Marine. Not only is this product superior to the Sikkens Cetol product I used previously (but also about twice the price!), it appears to be compatible. Despite the PPG Cetol SRD can instructions not to apply over other finishes, I was told by several "authorized' dealers that they are compatible - with DISASTROUS results (smeared, sagging finish that became opaque and peeled off after about 6 months). SInce then I discovered the Sikkens ProLuxe University Product Training Manual online which notes that PPG Cetol SRD can only be applied over bare wood or properly treated wood previously coated with Cetol SRD finish (NaOH wash, power wash, Oxalic acid neutralizing wash, power wash, 3 days drying minimum). If you are uncertain about which Sikkens products are compatible, I suggest reading this very helpful online manual rather than relying on authorized dealers who often only carry Cetol SRD and appear to be unaware of these problems.

Bee using Natural for years. Easy to apply, easy to touch up. Some work in boats all the time some don’t. I’m more don’t than all the time. So, this product looks good & with average effort.

After HOURS and hours of research on what to purchase to touch up the teak on our boat, this is what a marine specialist recommended to me and I am very happy that I went with this product. Application was easy, and after 3 coats this stuff looks absolutely amazing. We were shocked at the results. After 2 coats, we were a little iffy on how dull it appeared, but that third coat left it with the perfect gloss, and our wood looks phenomenal! SUPER happy with this purchase, and as long as it holds up well, this will be my go to product for our boat!

This stuff works much better than teak finish.
