We have a lot of pond weeds growing in our 1/4 acre earth pond every summer, making it look very unappealing (except to the dogs). Previously we have used a different color dye from the Pond Guy, but it made the water resemble the Caribbean, and we live in North Idaho. This time we chose the Twilight Blue color, applying it towards the end of March to get a head start on the weed growth. The color is really nice, a darker blue that looks pretty natural for our area. We initially added one cup of dye, but the color wasn't quite as dark as we wanted so added another cup, which did the trick. When the weather warms up, we will try Muckaway to help clear the bottom of the pond, which is now about twenty years old. Over ten years ago we added a baggie full of goldfish to the water (from a pet store, to "help" feed the turtles); there continue to be several large schools of goldfish of different sizes and colors that over-winter, so they are alive and well, and attracting herons, Kingfishers, ospreys and mergansers. Hopefully the darker color of the water will make it more difficult for them to get picked off! We plan to use the dye every 4-6 weeks as recommended; it is very cost-effective for us since our pond is small with a constant influx of water from an underground stream, and doesn't need aeration.

We love this dye, and the fish love it too. When the dye is in, the fish can be seen clearly swimming high on sunny days, as the water is shaded nicely for them. It also keeps down the algae. We were paying $300 a month for a lake maintenance company to manage our spring fed 1 acre pond. Then we decided to diy it. This color is much prettier than the one the maintenance company used. We now also get our algeacide from Amazon...treat it with that every 2 weeks....just like the company did, then apply this once a month. A full bottle for our 1 acre. This system has saved us so much money! The algeacide we use is the $35 one. Great diy combo for crystal clear, pristine water. It turns out pond into a tropical paradise! It actually lasts longer than a month! As it starts to fade a bit, I retreat. I prefer mine very colored. You can go months before adding. When you get lots of rain, you will need it a bit sooner. It's safe for our fully stocked pond, and we even have foot long goldfish, and it's safe for them all.

I like the packets more than the liquid form. I always managed to get the liquid on myself, no matter whether I had gloves on or not. I was delighted when I saw you could get the dye in a dissolvable packet!

I live on central Virginia with a half-acre pond that's both spring and creek fed. It also has two overflow pipes. Like all ponds here, they have an ugly brown color. I used the pond dye as directed, but it turned the pond green, not blue. That was better than brown, but it made it look like there was an algae bloom. The next day we had some heavy rainfall and the pond tuned back to brown. I suspect that the overflow pipes allowed enough water to escape to dilute the dye. I might try again after the rainy season ends, but this isn't a very good solution (no fault of the product).

After one week NO BLUE or any other color. STOP... Buy the liquid. I had watched some YouTube videos on using this product, and knew it could get on you. These packets are thin and melt in the water. I picked a windless day to toss these packets in the pond. I put on a latex glove to toss them. It went through the glove and I had a little stain on my fingers but no big deal. I felt good that i had done this without getting it all over me. Hahaha. When i went home, i kept getting blue stains on my hands from touching my cloths. i removed my clothes and bagged them. Even my shoes looked clean, but when i touched them, more blue stains. So i thought i better look in the mirror and check my face. Didn't see anything but when i wiped my face with a little water more blue. In the shower i go and even though i didn't see anything before getting in yep blue water running off my body. Had to cough and yep blue. Then blew my nose and of course blue snoot. Remember there was no wind and i thought i was being really careful. I come back and review the color in a day or two. Get the liquid. Gave 5 stars so it shows up... One star After one week NO BLUE or any other color.

Update 9/9; Unfortunately after 3 days it has seemed to of worn off and my pond turned green again. I’ve added another 2 fl oz to see if it hold up.So, I got this for my pond, and let me just say, this stuff does *not* mess around. My pond’s about 5,000 gallons +/- a few gallons here and there, baking in the unforgiving Southern California sun, and I figured, "Hey, I’ll eyeball the amount." Well, let’s just say my eyeballing skills are a little too ambitious. Less than 2 fl oz later, my pond is now a **bottomless abyss** of darkness.Pitch black. Like, I’m pretty sure if I toss a coin in, it’ll disappear into another dimension. It's not so much a pond anymore as it is a scene from a horror movie. I half-expect a mysterious fog to roll in and a voice to whisper, "Join usss..."In fairness, I “should” have started with 1 fl oz. But did I? Nope. So, here we are with a pond that could double as Darth Vader’s swimming pool.On the bright side (or lack thereof), it’s doing its job fantastically! No UV rays getting through this black void, that’s for sure. The water looks great, if you’re into the whole "infinite darkness" vibe. If you’re looking for a “subtle” tint, though, maybe start with less than half an ounce unless you’re trying to summon a kraken.**Overall, 10/10 would recommend**, but learn from my mistake and measure carefully unless you’re ready to embrace the darkness!
