Smoked Black Cod, 3 Pounds (AKA Sablefish)

Smoked black cod is one of my favorite things. I saw that I could get three pounds for $79.95, and decided to treat myself for my birthday. I was excited when it arrived, but less so when I realized that I had paid $49.95 for shipping (on top of Amazon Prime fees). Oh well. And then I found out that I only got 2.14 pounds of fish, not 3 pounds. And then I realized that one of the three packages of fish wasn’t shrink wrapped well, and was freezer burned and smelled bad. The other two packages were fine, but this was very, very disappointing. Well, lesson learned: Buy local. Buyer beware.

While in Alaska this summer we were introduced to smoked sablefish. Expecting that the spectacular taste would not be reproduced we were most pleasantly surprised to receive excellent quality fish, delivered in a professional vacuum packing, still frozen, and on time. It melted in the mouth like smoked butter, and had no suggestion of having ever been frozen. Watch out for a few bones. One of the most luxurious, simple taste treats I've had.

My girlfriend's father used to bring smoked sable home for the family when she was a kid but she never thought she would ever find sable like that again. Wrong again! This stuff is amazing. She admits that this sable is as good as back when. AND the customer service was top drawer. Will definitely order more. Nothing like a grateful girlfriend.

I threw this away. The product was dry not lush smoked sable. Very disappointing.
