'Large' was perfect for my size 7.5 noggin. This replaces the same model I accidentally left behind at Kindness Ranch, in Wyoming, after last year's eclipse... I loved that hat! I had customized the hatband with a small turquoise bead and reshaped the brim from the standard 'Cowboy/Aussie' to a slightly asymmetrical Fedora - one side of brim curving slightly up, the other side brim slightly down, and an off-center dip in the front. I've done the same with this new one.This hat offers ample ventilation, a reinforced peak, and a hatband with an interesting pattern, but slightly oversized for my taste. The stampede strings are also a bit chunky, so I may replace them with a thinner leather string. Some may object that the string grommets are not snug to the brim, but having them spaced farther out gives you more versatility when it comes to eyewear.As others have noted, this arrived moderately dented due to the use of normal Amazon packaging -- standard cardboard box w/ no top or bottom padding for brim or crown, just a few bubble pods to keep it from shifting sideways. However, unless the straw is actually torn, a little bit of careful steaming and reshaping is all it needs. (If you're new to shaping hats, read up on the techniques first.)My grandpa always wore a well-ventilated Cattleman-style straw hat when working on his Colorado ranch in the summer heat, but this semi-Fedora style is a better match for my trail hiking and 'round town lifestyle. Got this for golf, yard work and hiking as clearly I have been out in the sun too much. Style is personal, but this one is good for me and it wasn't one of those $600(!) models I came across that would make me too nervous to actually use. I like the chin strap and the band is appropriate to the hat and looks good.It has a decent cotton sweat band although on an 80 degree day I lose about a quart an hour and so may get an accessory band so that the hat does not become stained like all my baseball caps have. Those can be put in the dishwasher, but not this straw model.Seems well made of genuine grass or reeds or whatever those master weavers use for these. Seem to be soft and pliable, yet not at all floppy. These are genuine hand-made products, although Ecuador is the source for the high-end models it seems and this is made in Mexico. Made well, so no problem.Has a couple of inner shields that keep out harmful rays, one under the very top and the other under the front brim.This has a good balance of style, utility and cost and it can be recommended as a very nice utility hat that doesn't look cheap or unstylish.

Great hat. Fits and looks great. This is my second one, about $9 cheaper on Amazon than in the stores, although the price varied from the time I found it until the time I ordered it. It came in great condition. I hope to keep it that way. I'll be more careful with this one. I found out they're not too durable if someone sits on them.

I am very happy with the hat, I'm a 7 1/8, Amazon recommended XL. The reviews said it's a size bigger, so I ordered large, downsized a bit. Still too big, returned and ordered Medium-perfect fit. The hat arrived in perfect condition. The first delivery was damaged, crushed. The delivery box showed no sign of damage.

Saw this hat on a customer in a local store recently, offered to trade him my "gimme" cap for it, after he laughingly declined he did share the details of brand and how he liked it. (He loved it!) Found it on Amazon and received it today, and yikes, this hat rocks! Will definitely be my go-to hat for warm days in TX (notice how I avoided saying "kick-your-ass hot" days!) where one usually needs more protection from the sun than a typical gimme cap provides, while at the same time taking advantage of the infrequent cooling breeze. Unexpected bonus: my wife even likes it!I typically wear a hat in 7 3/8", this L hat fits well and I suspect will wear well over time. (My Filson hats are XL, their L just remains too snug for my head.)

This is a great hat! I love the look and feel of the hat, and it is perfect for hot summer days.My head size is on the boundary of medium and large, and I ordered large. I would likely have been better served by ordering a medium, as the hat seems to run just a little big. I used a half sheet of a paper towel that I rolled and placed under the hat's sweat band and now it fits perfectly though (the sweat band hides the paper so you can't see it through the straw of the hat...).I highly recommend the hat though I would suggest going with the smaller size if you are on the border of a size break.

This is one of my favorite hats. I live in Texas and unfortunately sweat stains are its biggest enemy. That said, it is very well ventilated and I really like the style. The price is well below that of the local hat stores.
