Queen of Hearts

Had to see this after learning it earned an Academy Award in its native country. Turns out it's a pretty good movie. The main character played by Trine Dyrholm truly qualifies as the Queen of Hearts, too. As icy, cold and calculating for sure. Didn't like the sad ending, however. Good movie.

Sad ending

This is a very interesting movie which deals with very questionable behavior by the lead actress. The movie is certainly not for viewers with a narrow mind set. All the actors are good. Although the lead is a very unlikable woman and I could not approve her behavior, the movie tries to explain very well, why she might behave in this way.

To say the sexual under pinning is powerful would almost be an understatement. However, the whole plot begins to go south when the protagonist becomes entrapped in a situation she cannot handle and eventually turns quite evil and dark. This is what foreign movies are made of, stark sex, and deep character development. Actors are all excellent, but be prepared to find the ending a bit surreal.

Excellent movie.

I very much enjoyed this movie, with one small exception. The DVD did not allow me to select English subtitles, I tried it several times. I watched the movie without subtitles even though I don't speak Danish. I read the synopsis on Wikipedia so I could follow along without the dialogue. Not going to bother with returning it.

I realize that it is a movie, but movies do convey the nature of a society, and for the Danish, everything goes. Having sex with a stepson is just a disgusting idea, film or o film. This must be the reason why they are such a happy people, because spiritual and moral values shine by their absence. Speaking of happiness, Denmark has one of the highest divorce rates, which demonstrates that there is a great deal of unhappiness.
