Q: Can I use the coated 2mm to hang sun shade sails?

I would say yes you can. Just make sure you have secure connectors at the loops. As a test I had 1/8" coated SS wire and I used the crimp on type connectors. When I hooked the loop around something and pulled hard the wire slid through the coating. Maybe I didn't have the connectors crimped tight enough. By crimp on type I mean the soft metal connectors with the 2 holes you put the wire through and crimp with a tool. I live in the upper desert Southern Cal and the wind hear can be very strong. If I was putting up a sun sail I'd use the "U" type connectors-the type you use a wrench or small socket to tighten. BTW-Had to laugh at your handle. I haven't heard that for many years. Great name.

No spool. Spool is not included.

Q: Do you have to use the crimping tool for the 1mm diameter coated wire? Or is there a standard tool to close the sleeve stops?

I used a pair of vice grip pliers to crimp mine and the seem to have done a very good firm crimp in the sleeves
