Loved the story
Wished it could have followed the book closer though.

Very good Movie, poor replica of the book.
SPOILER ALERTS:If this was just a standard romance movie, I would give this 5 stars. On a level of movie based on a book, I would give it 1 star. Overall this was a very good movie when you are not comparing it to the book.In the book, Harden is a Grade A Jerk. He is shallow, jealous, insecure, aggressive, sensitive and controlling. In the movie, he is kinda a jerk like a prep, but no where near as described in the book. This bothered me because what's important when you are reflecting a book into a movie is to ensure the character's personalities match. The movie does not cover the relationship with Harden and Ken nearly enough. I find this important too because Harden is the way he is because of the events with his mother and father.Landon's girlfriend Dakota is not even mentioned in the movie, only the book. I would have loved to see the backstory a little more with Landon like they explained in the book.Tessa's relationship with Noah could have been elaborated more. In the movie, it does not cover much of the breakup between Noah and Tessa. In the book, they explain that they actually got back together a 2nd time on the condition that Tessa stays away from Harden, but ultimately Tessa chooses Harden over Noah.In the book, Tessa is a bit more trampy. She went on a date with Zed too which was not even mentioned in the movie. I found this important because it builds climax and puts an emphasis on the relationship between Tessa and Harden.Other than that and some other minor things like Harden's appearance, car color, the character Tristan, the movie was really good.I would say it followed the book maybe 10% or less.NOTE: I watched the movie before I read the book, then watched the movie again for comparison.Great movie if you are looking for a romance, but you will be disappointed if you try and compare the movie to the book.

Don’t read the book and don’t watch the sequels
Yes, I’m in the minority and that’s fine. I did see the movie before skimming the books (thank Heaven or I never would have watched it). This movie was clearly aiming for more literary/artistic space—and the book and the sequels are just typical mass audience trash. The characters in After align with literary characters alluded to throughout the movie, as does the story. There are pieces of all of them, and it is quite well done in that regard. So if you like that type of depth, you will like this. I agree that there could have been fewer video clip episodes and perhaps more dialogue, but the soundtrack makes up for it somewhat if you listen to the lyrics. It is obvious there was thought behind the production if you pay attention.I was shocked and disappointed when I saw the sequel—especially the second, in which useful dialogue is replaced with omnipresent cursing (like the books), and the characters are shells of themselves. Hardin is a pathetic, uncontrolled fiend (gone is the brooding, quiet, steady guy), and Tessa is, well, the tramp from the books. She is definitely NOT Elizabeth Bennett, on every level x10. Neither is remotely likable anymore; they’re just…Yahoos (if you know the literary reference). Oh, and someone thought comedy would be a great addition to the sequels as well—and it fails terribly.I have watched After many times. It is charming. But go no further unless you wish to be sorely disappointed.

Watched out of boredom
What a complete, pleasant surprise. I thought this was a story for my nieces who are in their late teens and twenties. I love this series, IMHO well told story of love, pain, emotional fallout, redemption, perseverance, change that speaks volumes to people of all ages. Hero F Tiffen, I hope you have a very long and lucrative career. You demonstrated, with this series, you are a true talent I look forward to seeing again and again. Thank you.

Hardin is a whole mess!
Hardin is the perfect toxic hero to wreck you In these types of romances. Hero plays him he was born to play him! The actress plays the heck out of the naive, inexperienced heroine! I REWATCH these movies all the time

If you love love and are young at heart as well as realistic you will love this movie.
I watched the movie first and then read the books. As with any movie produced from books, it was rushed and I would have loved those actors in an AFTER series on Netflix or Amazon so that more of the books could have been portrayed by them. But I have watched this movie so many times, it's an obsession. As Anna Todd said, "not everyone" was raised in the perfect home and has learned from perfect relationships. Some have had to learn by fire.Langford and Fiennes Tiffin's chemistry is off the charts and carries the movie. I find myself rooting for them. I can hardly wait for AWC to be part of my collection.
