Easy installation, perfect fit
These lift supports were really easy to install and fit perfectly to my 2016 4Runner. At first sight the rods look about 1/2" too long, but it is because the old ones are no longer fully extending. When you put the new supports in, it is important to lift the tail gate pretty close to it's maximum extension (beyond the actual position with the old supports), so it is good to have a helper to lift until the point where upper cylinder head attaches. Also, important to notice that the old clips in the cylinder heads spring out sometimes really surprisingly when you are prying them out with a screwdriver, and it is good to have some eye protection as stated in the instruction! The installation is really easy for someone without any mechanic skills, and it took about 10 minutes. The old supports come out really easily once the clips have been removed. With the new supports the tail gate even lifts few inches higher than with the old ones. A really nice saving doing this by yourself!!

Effective Product with an Easy Install
This worked great for my 2016 4Runner. It took maybe five minutes to watch the installation guide video (using the link provided in the written instructions that came with the supports), and then maybe ten minutes to actually do the install. The only tools I needed were a ladder and a flathead screwdriver. Very simple, and the hatch is now higher than I remembered it could go.

Fit my 2016 Toyota 4Runner
Never having replaced these before I was cautious going in to this minor repair. I wore safety glasses from my DuPont safety training and the manual says to also. The first removal attempt of my old struts was difficult so I watched the video and changed struts. This one came out easy. Attached the replacement was was even easier. Moved the my original attempted removal with confidence now. Replaced it easy enough.New struts work so much better than the older ones which must have been in slow decline.

Not a heavy duty
Not very strong. It holds up but comes down when the hatch is halfway and you have to lift it all the way up so it can hold.

2012 4Runner Limited
One of the OEM liftgate struts on my 2012 4Runner Limited was beginning to leak oil and it had oozed down to the rear bumper before I noticed. These replacements were very easy to install. Several You tube videos exist that show you the entire process. I used a step ladder with a pillow on top to prop the tailgate open while installing. I do notice a different behavior when the tailgate opens. Now it opens approximately a foot, then pauses for just a fraction of a second before continuing. My OEM setup opened without a pause. It's a tiny difference, but after opening that tailgate for 6+ years, I did notice. This is a VERY economical fix and anyone with a screwdriver can replace them.

2015 Toyota 4Runner - 5 minutes to replace 2 supports
The supports worked great!! I am a 52 year old female and my 26 year old daughter helped me to replace the supports. I held up the hatch while I instructed her what to do. Start off by removing the bands that hold the supports in place (top and bottom bands) with a small flat head screwdriver. Once both bands are removed, just pull the support out. Install the new support in it's place by pushing into place (on the balls). Shake support a little just to make sure it's securely in place. Do the same on the opposite side. This process took less than 5 minutes to do. I did watch a You Tube video I found online before attempting to make the replacement. The hatch works perfectly fine now. Very Happy with this product although I can't say how long these supports will last. The original supports installed when being built only lasted 3 years. The local mechanic said he would replace them for around $100. I replaced them for the cost of the supports here on Amazon!!!
