no Honda clutch but works very well
A handful of reviews said this feels like a Honda. It only felt like that on mine because the outgoing Sachs clutch with bad throwout bearing gave a stiffer engagement. Brand new, this one did feel very light, smooth, and Honda-esqe, but that was probably just because it was brand new. After 500ish miles, it settled down and feels a lot more like what the Sachs clutch that it replaced (not as light as it felt when brand new but by no-means heavy, stiff, or jerky).I ordered a different throwout bearing as some reviewers said, and maybe it was a good thing. The one that came with this one had all plastic wear surfaces & clips on the clutch-fork side, while the OEM Sachs (and replacement Shaeffer unit that I used to replace it) had metal in those parts of the bearing. Who knows if the one that came with the kit would have worked, but I just figured to swap it out because pulling the trans is a pain.About a thousand miles later and drives like the OG Sachs by now!

Solid part, amazing price. Installed on 2000 Jetta TDI
Arrived undamaged, no surprises. For clarity: the alignment tool that appears in some of the images is not included, and you don't need it. The friction plate is centered when you receive the assembly, and it won't move unless you loosen the bolts holding the pressure plate to the flywheel. The contents of this kit are: the dual-mass flywheel, clutch friction disc and pressure plate (bolted together as one part), a release bearing, and a small packet of spline grease. To corroborate what some others have said, in order to install the assembly all in one piece as intended, your 12mm triple square bit does need to be the long variety. I got the Neiko 10054A set Neiko 10054A 4-Inch Extra Long XZN Triple Square Spline Bit Socket Set, S2 Steel | 10-Piece Set, which worked well. 12mm is the only size you need in extra long for this job, so you could buy just one.I Installed it a few days ago, and so far I am pleased. The pressure plate springs are somewhat lighter than the OE Sachs unit, making for a relatively light pedal feel, as others have noted. I like it, and it seems to provide at least as much clamping force as the original.Upon the recommendation of some reviewers, I purchased another release bearing and installed that one, but to my eye the OEM bearing I got (from FCP Euro) and this one were identical.I did quite a bit of research before choosing this part, and was skeptical at first because of how much cheaper this unit is than the Sachs equivalent and others. However, up to this point I am convinced that this was the right choice and can heartily recommend it.

Great find for my gas-engined 2003 1.8T Jetta
I have a 2003 VW Jetta GLS 1.8 Turbo. It takes unleaded gasoline. Note this is NOT a Diesel engine model. This part worked perfectly for me. I've had some trouble with Amazon and auto parts. I think they have improved telling you when a product does or does not fit my car. This time they got it right. As a last minute sanity check, I had the guy who checked my car in look at the part and verify it was right before I caught a ride back home. No reason to leave it behind if it was the wrong part. The repair shops where I live quoted me between $600 and $700 for parts and about $700 to $900 for labor. I was very happy to find this on Amazon for so low. I ended up paying less than $750 total (part included)! The repair shop I chose got the kit in no problem in about 6 hours. Not only is my clutch no longer slipping, the shifting in the gears feel so much tighter it is like driving my car back when she was new. I can't be certain but to me anyway my car also seems much more responsive and easier to drive and handle.Might be because I babied a slipping clutch for about a year before I found this and took it in, but a new clutch seems to breathe new life back into my aging car. Most definitely would suggest to anyone.

Poor design, doesn't last.
Install the clutch assembly in late August. Very easy to install no alignment tool needed. Clutch worked great for the first five and a half months. It developed a vibration under light acceleration and deceleration. Would not recommend this product. It would be a great value if it lasted longer.

Perfect for my MKIV Jetta TDI
Best price you will find on this set and it shipped out on Prime which improves the value. Installation into my MKIV Jetta TDI was smooth. My only problem came from the Throwout bearing which has a plastic retainer tab on the back to hold it in to the clutch fork. The tab broke trying to install it. Luckily it is not critical to function - just for assembly so I used some rtv to hold it in place for the install. That worked without issue. The clutch now has about 10k miles on it since install. The pedal is SUPER light compared to the stock clutch. Holding power is good. My tdi is stock so no insights as to how it would hold up with any mods but for stock I love this clutch and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone else.Update 5/22/2017Now have about 25k miles on the new clutch and it is still smooth and light. Grip is great and I have ZERO complaints or regrets about going with this over a different kit that deletes the DMF.

Perfect fit for my 02 VW jetta 1.8t
good product and price and as always fast delivery with Amazon. This fit my 02VW jetta 1.8t perfectly. If you are a DIY'er and a little bit of a mechanic, you can install this yourself and save big money. I was quoted 1700.00 and didn't include a new rear main seal, clutch fork or new gearbox fluid. I did it all for 300.00 in a long weekend.

Works better than I could have hoped.
My application2006 "mk4" Jetta TDI (BEW engine) 330,000 miles.I installed this new clutch myself over the course of two weeks. It had everything I needed. The clutch was exactly like the OEM. It fit perfectly. It works flawlessly. It made the car much easier to drive. Smooth and fun. So much better than before with crazy vibration between 1000-1500 rpm the old one had.I didn't own the car when new but now I see how it must have felt like. The drama and trouble of replacement was mostly due to the old one failing in a catastrophic way that required much time to remove. Replace yours before it fails!
