Rear Air Spring for 07-19 BMW X5/X6 E70/F15 E71/F16

My 2008 X5 has been showing rear air suspension leakage for half a year and it's getting worse. I finally bought the replacement parts from Amazon (seller is Shockwarehouse) and cannot be more happier. The price is great, and the installation is not hard. The hardest part for me was me trying to insert the new air spring to the right hole position since you cannot see it. I made a mistake wearing gloves (to keep my hands clean) when I did it and wasted lots of time. When I finally took the gloves off it was pretty easy to feel and find the spot. The truck is now back to normal, no morning annoying air pump noise when we open the doors. And just so you know, the items we received were actually directly shipped from Arnott warehouse, with a very new manufacturing date (Nov 2014 or similar). Very happy with the purchase.

This product is as advertised and the manufacturer made sure the bladder connection slots are in alignment with the car's suspension on unibody work. I got this from a seller in Amazon that is around $70 cheaper than other sellers for the set but it is the same Arnott branded bladders for my X5. The air hose connection could not be simpler as instructed by the manufacturer. The actual replacement of the air bladders itself for DIY folks will only involve two car jacks, an open end wrench (probably a 10mm) and a channel lock pliers. The most time one will spend is taking out the underbody panels to expose the air compressor so that you can let the air out of the supply hose. Altogether it took me around two hours as I had to be careful with the first air bladder removal since it's the first one I'm doing. There are youtube instructionals out there that make it look too easy - because it is. I replaced two bladders on a 2014 X5 35d X-drive M-sport model with third row seating and an self leveling suspension (thus the air suspension bladders).

After reading the reviews and watching installation videos (Arnott and others), it was clear this install would not be too difficult to perform with a few tools. The hardest part about this install was getting the top of this air spring aligned correctly to the opening in the recess of the vehicle for the retaining tabs. Otherwise, all went well and has made the X5 much more comfortable to ride in. In my particular case, I found the pneumatic pressure reducing solenoid (part of the compressor package) was getting stuck open so the original air springs were occasionally found to be reducing all the way. Unfortunately, driving the vehicle in that condition (no ability to pressure up the bags) finally killed my OEM air springs. After repairing the reducing solenoid and replacing the OEM air springs with these, the car has not sagged in the rear and rides very smooth.

These suspension bags fit a 2013 X5 xdrive50i with no issues (direct fitment). They look a little slimmer in diameter than the originals that were pulled out but it could be the old ones were a little stretched after 100k miles. The SUV was constantly settling in the rear and sometimes triggers the alarm. It was a sign that they were done and need replacement. While searching for OEM, the prices as usual were too high. For the two bags it was around $700. To replace, make sure to read the directions. A common mistake people make is that they remove air line fitting from the new bags thinking that it’s better to use the existing ones from BMW. That will not work! (If removed, they will strip and create a leak in the future). The line fittings on the Arnott bags are calibrated and torqued to spec. They should not be removed. Directions: 1. Remove the shield cover under the front passenger side. 2. Unplug the power from the compressor (motor) relay to relieve air pressure 3. Compress and remove rear air bags by twisting clockwise. 4. Remove air line fitting using a 10mm wrench 5. Using nose pliers, remove the collet at the tip or break open 6. Slide the threaded portion out 7. Clean the air line from dust and debris, then run the line through your existing boot into the indentation of the bag. The Arnott bags do not come with plastic boots. 8. Insert the air line into fitting of the Arnott bag and press firmly until seated 9. Lightly pull on the line to ensure that it’s secure in place 10. Place bag into the notch on top and twist counterclockwise 11. Plug the relay back into place 12. Install dust cover 13. Grab your key and walk next to driver door or open door and turn vehicle on. You will hear the motor running as the rear starts to raise up. Also known as pneumatic spring or Rear Air Spring. For vehicles with Self-leveling suspension (Arnott Part #: ARN-A2642). BMW OEM# 37126790079. The recommendation is to replace both especially at high mileage. Height measurements prior to install 30 inches. After 32 inches on both sides. DIY should take 1-3 hours. Tools used: 8mm and 10 mm socket, ratchet, nose pliers, screwdriver, 10mm wrench, jack and jack stands.

Fairly easy to install have faith. The problem is if you cannot extend it and you try to use a jack to lower the bottom of the suspension, you will need to recalibrate your suspension.

Hi, I ordered this as an international customer form US, I am driving BMW x6 F16 x35i, I took out the fuse 40 A from the fuse box at the back … used 3 ton jack lifter and 6 ton jack stands, then removed the cover at the passenger side as per Arnott web site video installation guide. I would recommend you only to remove the fuse if you have Carly or any kind of programmer, otherwise you have to disconnect the battery or the car will register the Air suspension fault , and you have to erase it. disconnected the solenoid valve and loose the nuts 10mm but not to remove completely this step can be done if you have air in the balloon , if you have a saggy balloons then you can neglect this step , then removed the old air balloon first the bottom side form the air suspension seat then twist the balloon clock wise , you remove the air line buy removing the fittings and discard them, you don't use the old fittings on the new one, you insert the air line hose to the new fittings with a long nose all way , till you feel you reach the end , then gently pull back the air hose to make sure it is not moving anymore, the very important thing I erased the faults while the car is on the jacks , and switch it on but the air balloons did not work …. my co worker suggested to install the tires and put the car back on its wheels and suddenly the air compressor work and I couldn't understand why. took a test drive and I hope it will last for two years as the original one.

It is much cheaper than the oem, and absolutely no error codes. Would definitely buy again, but it has a lifetime warranty, so I’m safe.

Put it in my BMW X5 for 4 years now and didn’t miss a beat

I'd like to give this product 8 stars. This product was a perfect fit. A BMW authorized shop in Saskatchewan quoted me $2400 to replace these two air springs. It was a simple remove and replace. I changed both of mine at the same time so the most difficult part was jacking the vehicle from the back. First, remove the fuse for the air compressor. Next, raise the vehicle up and place on jack stands. BMW has specific spots on the sides just in front of the rear wheels where it is safe to place jack stands. Once lifted, I removed the tires and sliced both airbags with a box cutter. I suggest doing this at your own risk but it was simple, quick and easy. I wore eye protection just incase. Most videos suggest disconnecting the airlines at the compressor on the under side of the vehicle. One video showed the method I used so I figured it must be safe. Once deflated I used a crow bar to pop up the old air springs, there is lots of videos about trying to squeeze the bottoms and have them come free that way but its a waste of time. Crowbar is efficient and safe. Once they're popped up you give them a 1/4 turn and they come loose. Remove the nut that holds in the airline, but do not worry about breaking the nut as the new air springs come with a quick connect that you just push in the airline, no more nut. You need to remove the dust cap from the old air springs and install it on the new ones. A bit of a struggle here but no more than a couple minutes per side. Pay attention to the airline hose holes, they need to be lined up prior to install the dust-cap so you have an easy nest step....now, push in new airline. The most difficult part for me was aligning the new spring in the top part of the suspension. You do not have great visual and it can only go in one way. The first side took me about 15 minutes to line up, the 2nd side less than 5 minutes. Once they are lined up, another 1/4 turn the other way and they are secured. A lot of DIY videos say you cannot pull the air spring down to click in the bottom part, but I was able to do both my hand. I am not some super human either, just a regular Dad bod kinda guy with a bit of old man strength. Anyways, once clicked in, put the tires back on and then raise the car slightly and remove the jack stands. I chose to slowly lower the vehicle until the vehicles tires are just a bit from the ground. I then placed the fuse back into the trunk fuse box and the compressor immediately kicked in. While the air springs inflated and I slowly lowered the vehicle the remaining little bit. Again, this job took 90 minutes start to finish by a regular Joe. Take a chance and save the money, I watched 5 DIY videos prior to doing this job and it set me up for success. Everyone did things a little bit different but I highlight the time saving things here. Unfortuneatky, I only sent SNAPS to some friends of the whole install instead of recording videos. Sorry.

When BMW stealer had the car in for oil change they said that air bag on one side was going. Shortly after, went away for 10 days and when I came back the car was low on that side, so they were right. Considered the other brands on Amazon that are half the price but decided on this one because it comes with a lifetime guarantee and other reviews suggest they may be even better then OEM. Got local garage to fit and all is well. Probably saved more than £1,000 compared to BMW dealer price. I am very happy with the item and if I needed to, would buy again for the other side.
