DREAMS CAN COME TRUE. JUST NOT THE GOOD ONES. In Beacon Hills, a mountain lion is blamed for a spate of vicious attacks; Scott McCall wishes the cause was that simple. Unfortunately, hiding his werewolf identity, especially from Allison Argent, while fighting his need to shift, is only one problem. Keeping his mysterious, murderous Alpha off his back (literally), avoiding hunters, deciphering strange dreams about flames and impending doom . . . is really eating into lacrosse practice and hang-out time. So when Jackson Whittemore doesn’t show for his date with Lydia, Scott hopes that helping Allison track down their buddy will be simpler. Derek—whose hunger for vengeance blinds him to the dangers that lie in wait—and Stiles are also looking, but the worried teens’ search is leading right to the preserve from Scott’s nightmare. They aren’t the only ones in the woods, and their little trip starts looking less like a rescue mission and more like an elaborate trap—one that will force them to make the choice between killing and being killed. . . . Review: Filled in some nifty backstory - I usually take a dim view of the "novels" that are written for television shows because they're usually written fast to try to earn a cheap buck for the studios. However, I'm happy to report that I really liked this one. (Which is good because I really enjoy watching Teen Wolf.) The novel takes place during the time period covered by the first season of Teen Wolf so you might want to reacquaint yourself with what happened in the first season before you read the book. Without going back and watching the episodes one at a time, I think this action takes places sometime in the middle of the season. It is an entirely new story (probably could have been an episode by itself) and not a rehash of an episode. The best part of the novel is that it fills in quite a bit of backstory on several of the characters, specifically Derek Hale. Turns out, Derek wasn't always Mr. Tall, Dark and Angsty but was actually more like Scott McCall. Derek's story is told in flashbacks throughout the book and considering you know how it all eventually turns out for him, it is pretty heartbreaking. The rest of the story is interesting as well. The story revolves around the crew (Scott, Allison, Derek and Stiles) trying to find Jackson who has gone missing and you find out quite a bit more about Jackson and his background. You develop a different point of view on the Jackson character which makes watching (or re-watching) the episodes in season 2 more interesting. If you've watched Season 2 about the development of the Kanima, it lends a new dimension to that as well. This book came out around the time Season 2 was just ending and there are some things in the book that get referenced in Season 2. However, it isn't necessary to have watched the second season to enjoy this book. It is pretty helpful to watch season 1, though, because the book doesn't explain the origin of anyone or who the characters are - it just jumps right into the action. Review: Great Teen Wolf Book - If you are a fan of the show, this book is a great thing to tide you over for a bit, if you read it in the absence of the show since it isn't summer... the book started slow, but when you get in to the book, if you like the show there are plenty of things that you can appreciate about the story that is written. This book picks up inside of the first season and gives a back story to some of the characters that fans of the show have come to love. The book was an enjoyable read. The book took twists and turns that were not a part of the episodes which is fun in its own way. The best thing about this book is that I love the show and it has given me different perspectives on some of the characters and events that have transpired. I would say if you watched Season 1 of the show, this is a good book for you. Although season 2 has ended, it isn't really necessary that you have seen it to be able to follow the plot within.

Awesome!
This was a great tie-in to the TV series, revealing a previously unseen story from Teen Wolf set between episodes 6 and 8 of season 1. I especially liked the frequent flashbacks to the past in the novel, such as: - how Derek Hale and Kate Argent met and formed a relationship - how Derek's family and home life was explored in greater detail, especially with his older sister Laura - how Scott's physically and verbally abusive father was introduced (though his name is never given) I especially liked how most of the main characters in the novel had met each other in some capacity in flashbacks and not realized or remembered it. I highly recommend this novel to any fan of the Teen Wolf TV series. Overall, an excellent read, and I look forward to more book in the series should any more ever be published!

Good but with a slight downside for Stiles fans!
First and foremost, I would generally wish to give this 5 stars, because this is a great book, but I give it four because it was a little different than expected and I have one major complaint which I will get to later. First off, I expected this book to be basically a summary of season 1 of Teen Wolf. This is very wrong. Holder incorporates many elements from season one hitting all the major iconic scenes, but they are more or less flashbacks. This book is actually a complete new story, you can think of it as a lost episode that should probably take place one or two after the parent teacher conferences. It is based on prior to Allison finding out about Scott, before Allison finds out the family secret and prior to us finding out the identity of the Alpha. I would place it about episode 6/7 perhaps one or two after the locked in the school episode. Anyway, the basic outline is it begins on the Parent Teacher conferences, we all know (if we watched the show) that Allison and Scott ditch school, and they get in trouble. Then the book changes and centers around a search for Jackson who has gone missing. This is completely different and did not occur in season 1, and this is the point that makes this seem like a lost episode that would had fit incredibly well mid season. The book is basically about Lydia looking for Jackson, and Scott and Allison are looking in the preserve for him together and Scott is trying to hide his wolf ability. Derick and Stiles join the search party, looking now for the Alpha who is lose in the woods, Jackson, and Allison and Scott. Mid book, a new story line begins, going back six years before, in which Holder makes a good attempt to fill in the blanks about the Hale fire and Derick's and Kate's relationship. She continues going back and forth from these two stories, search for Jackson in the present and Kate and Derick's relationship six years earlier. Everything then ties together in the final scene with these two story lines. It is a great read, and a fast read, and honestly deserves 5/5. I can't give it that though, because I was disappointed in the minor part Stiles had. There is a branch of the book, after about page 120 where we abandon Stiles for a hundred pages and Allison and Scott are abandoned for a good 50-75. This was a little disappointing for me, since those three (especially stiles) are my favorites and I wish the book centered around them more. The book is actually probably 20% Scott/Allison, 10% Derick and Stiles, 35% Lydia/Jackson, 35% Derick and Kate. This was my only complaint, I just wish the Kate flashbacks with Derick could had been cut a little and instead incorporated more present day Stiles. Other than that it is a good read and wonderful for Teen Wolf fans!

Teen Wolf show in Book format!
Some of the story in here might ruin plot points that seem to be happening in Teen Wolf season 3 coming next summer. This is a great book though! Features characters from Season 1, and takes place in Season 1 of Teen Wolf, also some plot takes place in the past when Derrick was a Teen about the same age as Scott. I enjoyed this book a lot and read it within a day I picked it up. Great for any fan of the show! 5/5

Enjoyable!
It has been a while since i watched the show, but Ive always been a fan. And whenever its rainy, Ive found that this is a perfect book to curl up with and just enjoy. Its a different take than what i remember from the show, but I would happily read a whole series of Teenwolf if there was a book version. 10/10 would recommend to any TeenWolf fan

Creative, yet lacking
When Teen Wolf first started, I was skeptical. An MTV show about an '80s movie starring Michael J. Fox? You've got to be kidding me! But from the first episode, I was intrigued. The characters aren't clearly defined (which is good because no one wants a clear cut bad guy anymore) and the acting was great (which is excellent for an MTV series). Tyler Posey is cute and lovable, like a puppy you just want to cuddle with, even when he's all wolfed out. Dylan O'Brien is a comedic genius and his moments with his dad, played by Johnny Cage himself (yay!), are some of the most gut-wrenchingly sweet moments of the show. The rest of the characters are fun, even when incredibly stereotypical, with their own side-stories. But there always seemed to be something...missing from the backstory involving Kate Argent and Derek Hale. So when I saw a season 1 series tie-in, I thought, "Hey, cool! Now I can piece it together." Well...while the book does add some interesting color to the story between Kate and Derek, it just didn't fit. It seemed to lack something the series seems to grasp exceptionally well. Maybe it was just that I was missing the actual visual of the TV series' great landscapes and expressive faces. Maybe it was simply that there wasn't enough of it. Whatever the reason, I found myself flipping back and forth between the last page of the book and the author's information, trying to figure out where the rest of my book was. The writing style was good and the book was edited pretty well (better than even some of the "NY Times Best Sellers" I've read) and I give great kudos to Nancy Holder for diving into the world MTV crafted so well. But, like some of the reviews I read before I purchased the book, there were some flaws in her story: There wasn't enough interaction between some of the main characters. Derek was too angry (his portrayer on the show, Tyler Hoechlin, is a master at the "brooding face" but he still manages to convey some humanity and morales). And there simply wasn't enough Stiles! The character of Stiles is, for most, the reason this show manages to balance the horrors of high school with the supernatural. When the going gets tough, he puts things in perspective with wit; when the waters get murky, Stiles lights the way with a bit of dry humor. Stiles is the moral high ground in a story where morales are often pushed aside in favor of revenge or retribution. All in all, this book was a good read. I just wish there had been more of it...and more of Stiles!
