Hi-Lift jacks are made in Bloomfield Indiana. Be careful of cheap knock off's which are made in Asia.

what is capacity of HL 485 ?

I believe its tested capacity is 7,000 lbs. I bought an attachment to use it on my lifted excursion, so unless your heavier than an excursion I think your good. I don't think you'll be disappointed with it.

Why is it cast and not forged? Isn't cast metal extremely brittle?

Its cast steel not cast iron. Apparently the metallurgists have figured this out. These jacks don’t break.

How long is the lifting tongue?

The entire tongue is four and a half inches long, and the insertable part (the part that slots into the HiLift tire lifting accessory, for example) is exactly three inches long.
