The original hard drive for the Panasonic Toughbook CF-U1 is no longer available and, being proprietary, the only solution is an SSD modification. The cable clips in with ease and is retained securely. Although... you should put the cable in FIRST before you install the SSD card. Once the card is in, it is a little more difficult to press the retainer down completely. Not impossible, just a little mote difficult. This, combined with an SSD card, worked perfectly and brought one of my dozen Toughbooks back to life. One down, five to go :smile

Works just as intended. Helped me reuse a spare 256gb msata SSD in my Latitude D430. You will need to be creative about keeping it snug however. I just used a 3M adhesive strip to attach it to the bottom of the mousepad assembly. Only took 5 minutes.

Replaced failed PATA ZIF drive on Dell D430. Paired with Hynix 256GB mSATA drive, good fitment, and performant. About 8 seconds on boot to login prompt using latest version of Ubuntu Mate Linux on stock D430 with 2GB of RAM.

Some odd reason the first one I had did not work. 2nd is perfect. Used in dell latitude d430 for an ssd upgrade. I used Hynix SK920 ssd. Mine has latest firmware. If it’s not on the latest firmware there may be some issues of detection on boot. When plugging in the cable, look for the thick traces and match.

As others have noted, the latch does NOT hold the Ribbon Cable in place. It easily falls out. My drive also simply does not show up at all for partitioning. Sadly this is just a paperweight of e-waste.

This was used to replace a zif hdd in a sony hd video camera. While the Read/write values appear to be similar, the peace of mind knowing that there are no more moving parts in the camera's writing process cannot be fully understood until you make the conversion! Now my kids can use the camera and bang it around and i'm not worried that it will mess up the hdd. Priceless upgrade is all i can say!

Like some 1-star reviewers, I initially tried to attach the ZIF ribbon without success. The lock couldn't hold the ribbon in place. The laptop wouldn't see the drive. Then I read somewhere that different devices use different cable thicknesses. So I added one piece of tape to the back side of the ribbon (i.e. OPPOSITE side of where the metal contacts are). Now the ribbon slides in somewhat snugly, and the lock properly holds the ribbon in place. It works now.
