Will this work in a 2017 honda hrv?

it fits most hondas, but not all. the way to make sure is to measure the space between the left edge of the gas pedal and the left foot rest. you need at least 11 inches. it works with the honda civic and crv, but not the odessey. do not know about the hrv.

the bump by the door that your left foot sits on when you drive.

the base is 11 inches square. you need 11 inches between the gas pedal and the left foot rest, otherwise, the left foot rest blocks the left foot gas pedal.

Does it anchor well on a car floor mat, thus preventing it from moving. Or is it recommended to use double sided adhesive tape to make sure?

90 percent of the time you do not need to do anything additional to anchor it to the carpet, but if the carpet has been matted down from the floor mat, then tape or velcro should hold it according to past customers.
