Industrial Mechanics

This is an older version of the text book. There hasn't been much updated that I can tell but this edition is much cheaper than the current 4th edition. It covers a variety of mechanical systems and components including pneumatics, mechanical couplings, and much more. The one thing lacking which I feel is a major area of industrial mechanics is roller chains and chain drives. I used this book in 2008 at the local Jr. college to get a certificate in maintenance mechanics. Although no book can be comprehensive in covering such a wide topic, the knowledge gained from this textbook put me on a level playing field when interviewing for a job. I gained the knowledge to be able to communicate using the correct terms of various devices and this impressed the plant managers whom I interviewed with. The text is clear and well presented and the illustrations are well done and show many of the various components that one might deal with or show the component in an exploded view.

I had the previous version of this book for a Mechanical and Fluid Power Transmission class while attending college. It was such a good book for covering bearings, lubrication, belts, gears, work, force, hydraulics, and pneumatics in our introductory course that I purchased the new edition when it became available. The CD gives very good reference documents on it that I have used out in the field. This book covers the operations and understanding of these components and systems, it is a good resource for reference. Not much different from the previous version within the book except for a chapter on measurements and measuring devices like scales and micrometers but the CD that is only available with this edition is awesome.

This book met my expectations. I do training classes on this material and it gave me some different insights on materials such as Bearings, Lubrication, Rigging, and Vibration. I thought it was a very good book.

One of the BEST. It shows tools , idea behind and practical aspects and procedures. Clear Simple and to the point.
