Smeralda Italian Whole Bottarga Grey Mullet Roe from Sardinia 5 Ounce - Pack of 3

It’s a great product. I’ve bought it several times. It lasts forever, it tastes great, and it arrives promptly. I love the taste, but I discovered it when I was searching for a reliable, cheap source of omega-3s, which are hard to come by. This turned out to be cheaper than buying bpa-free canned sardines, and it’s a lot more versatile. Also, it’s even lower on the food-chain than sardines, so even less chance of mercury! It’s also high in selenium and vitamin D. This is tasty, healthy, and a good quality. I highly recommend it. I just eat a little plain, It’s like a sea-flavored cheese- but if you grate it into other food, it’s a very subtle flavor and just enhances whatever you add it to. Mmmm!

I love bottarga and I’ve tried many brands but this is my favorite. The bottarga is always moist and flavorful. It has the clean taste of the sea and is wonderful to use for spaghetti bottarga. It’s not cheap but, served this way, it’s an affordable luxury that I keep coming back to.

My husband is from Sardinia and, living in the States, we had been missing botarga until I got the idea to look for it on Amazon where I found plenty to choose from. It was quite expensive, but we ordered it anyway. It arrived a day earlier than promised and was very well insulated, which was a good thing, since the ice pack had warmed and the botarga was barely cool. Next time, I will pay for two-day shipping if Prime isn't available. In any case, the botarga was excellent and were very happy with it.

I purchased Bottarga several times before. This one is probably the best I had. As a not expert enjoyed Fresh taste and smell with no signs of aging Perfect salt balance Comfortable dryness Going to order it again for sure

I Am actually Sardinian , lived my whole life there before moving to the US .. I tried many different brands , they where all pretty good . I found this about a week ago on my search , and I know the brand , its a very popular very good quality brand up in Sardinia ... I immediately ordered the 3 pack , I was very excited to get the bottarga I used to eat when I was little ... It finally came today , I am extremely disappointed. It got here and it looked fine , but it smelled terrible like rotten fish gone bad for months , and it was very wet inside the vacuum sealed bag as well ... I am sure I just got a bad badge at this point I’m not pointing fingers at my home city (Cagliari) for making the product , I think something went wrong either with the shipping or the storing of it in NY . Especially cause I know this to be the best bottarga out there , so something must have went very wrong .. It was literally rotten , had to wash my hands multiple times to get that smell out !

I ordered the product on Friday and received the bottarga on Tuesday - fast delivery and it was nicely packaged with an ice pack which kept the food item chilled. The quality of the product is good, however, I received 6 split halves instead of 3 whole bottarga - so buyers be a bit cautious - whole bottarga is always of better quality and I've never seen them split like this in gourmet stores in Italy. The product looks nothing like the picture (i.e., not that big, slightly darker in color, and is split in half.) The weight is also less than a pound (more like 380 grams), but as a consolation, at least the product tastes good and is vacuum sealed. If you don't mind these shortcomings, I would say go for it since the product is reasonable. If however, you are a picky person, do shop around elsewhere to avoid disappointment.

Excellent and well-made bottarga. I love it, I keep buying again all the time. Superior taste. I like the way it comes; in a package with ice, in one day. Recommend it highly.
