It cuts the end of the fret tang so you can’t see it. Stew Mac tools are top notch.

This thing doesn't perform very well. It doesn't do stainless steel by a long shot, and it's mediocre at nickel and other fret compositions. I haven't used it very much, and it was completely useless on my last project. I just got the REALLY good one from StewMac, which is only $25 more, and I have high hopes. I mean, why buy something you can't use for everything? As a luthier, I'm GOING to get requests for stainless steel frets, so just "BUY ONCE, CRY ONCE" and get the top one.Anybody want to buy this from me? I'll sell it to you at a discount.

This tool rocks! I love it. I just did my third fret with this and man does this work. However, if i had know that i could use the cutting tool on my Dremel to do this i would have instead of buying this. This tool is faster but expensive. If you are doing a lot of fret work, then the Dremel might not be fast enough. I am glad i bought this anyway 'cause i am doing a lot of fret work. Love it!

The cutting arm snapped in half on first try worthless cheap tool for a lot of money

I couldn’t get this thing to notch fretwire without bending the ends of the fretwire. The frets don’t lay square to the cutter regardless of which plate I used. I was using Stew Mac ‘medium higher’ fretwire and after wasting about a foot of fretwire I went back to the old school way of using my fret cutters. I did manage to get one or two decent cuts done and this nipper still leaves a lot of tang to file down, no better than just using my cutters. Save your money.

Easy to use, a real finger and time saver. Highly recommended.
