Do you have to put the handle on the cart? or can you assemble without it?

The handle is part of the construction but I guess you could leave it off. The whole end part with the handle just slides on during assembly.

What is the shipping box size?

You need to put the all the pieces together; so it was about the size of the three shelves. We like the cart a lot as it serves the purpose well!

How large is the opening between shelves?

The middle shelf opening is 7 3/4" and 10 1/2" for storage. The bottom shelf is similar, opening is 7 1/2" with a storage height of 10 1/4".
