Is it safe for horses that wear shoes? It looks like even if they were to stomp at the hay there is no netting for them to get caught in

Yes. I have a horse boarding with front shoes and she has pawed at the bag no problems without her getting her hooves or shoes caught.

Does it cinch closed at the top somehow?

The top opening has an elastic that pulls in a bit and keeps it from falling down. It cannot be cinched closed.

Are these wraps and nets made only for round bales

The Big Bale Buddy (green bag) is for round bales only, but the Slow Bale Buddy (net slowfeeder) is available in sizes to fit large and small square bales as well.
