Impressed with this tank!
I purchased this 19 Gallon Moeller Marine Below Deck Tank to replace a 30 year old aluminum tank in a 1979 Century Model 200 (19 foot runabout with Mercruiser 228 I/O) The original tank was filled with bad gas. Even after pumping it out it was still having issues... most likely because the layers of deposits on the inside of the tank being eaten off by ethanol in today's gasoline. I always used Sta-Bil products in the gas but that didn't seem to help. The inside of my carburetor always ended up with gel like deposits no matter how many times I cleaned it, or changed the fuel filters (I have a water separating fuel filter as well). When I cleaned and rebuilt the carb (Edelbrock 1409 marine 600cfm carb), Pumped the old gas out of the new fuel pump (only 5 hours on it max), changed the fuel filter... and ran the boat from an external 5 gallon gas jug... it ran like a top, and had no issues at all... so I knew something was up with the old tank, and it had to go... My experience with swapping it out wasn't that bad... as my old tank was fairly easy to access. I carefully measured the dimensions of the old tank and found one of these Moeller tanks that fit it as closely as possible. The old tank was 27 gallons, but I didn't think I needed one that was that large for my purposes. So, I was very pleased to see that this 19 gallon tank which fit the dimensions I needed, was only $150 shipped! I did purchase the mounting kit for an additional $20 with shipping and was pleased with that as well... I replaced the 30 year old fuel filler hose as well as fuel line from the tank to the engine... and that added about $50 to the project... but still... the peace of mind I have now from having a new fuel system is worth it. You would not believe what came out of the old tank! The fuel had of course separated, and there were layers of different colors... I ended up with 15 gallons into three 5 gallon gas containers, and each container was a different color! One clear, one light brownish, and one coca-cola brown with gel globs floating in it! I have photos of the whole swap and the bad gas and will hopefully post them on here. I've been told the brown color is the old varnish deposits that the ethanol has dissolved from the inside of the tank, and the Gel stuff is leftover MBTE material that used to be in gasoline back in the day that reacts with the ethanol. Supposedly no filters will be able to filter out everything if your tank is that bad... Even if I had removed the aluminum tank, and cleaned it out as best as possible, I would always worry. I didn't put all the effort into reconditioning my Merc 228 and going through the whole Stern drive, just to have something so stupid as an old gas tank + ethanol situation keep messing it up... so... again, a $200 project was no big deal for me. THE TANK: One big difference from the photo shown here is a large, 6 inch diameter metal plate which is removable from the top, in the center next to the fuel sender. I believe this is removable to allow for inspection and cleaning of the inside of the tank. In my tank's location, I could access this easily if I needed to! A nice addition, as my previous aluminium tank had NO access to view the inside, and thus, is why I had to replace it. My tank also had a molded filler inlet, not metal as the photo shows. This is an improvement/revision over the original design I suppose because it's one less place to leak. The Vent connection was still metal, as the fuel pickup connection. I was very pleased my old barb fitting for my fuel line threaded into the Moeller tank pickup perfectly! I used some "perfect seal" on the threads and I have a leak free tank! I was overjoyed when I connected the 1979 original Fuel gauge to the Fuel Level Sender and the needle showed the correct amount of gas in the tank! I didn't have to buy a new fuel gauge! So it must conform to the electrical standards of other gauges. Couldn't be happier about that! The mounting brackets require a bit of thought if you plan on using them... The tabs which screw down to the mounting platform stick out from the side of the tank by approximately 1.5 inches. This caused me to actually rethink how I originally intended to mount it, but it wasn't that bad. I used two pieces of outdoor rated / weather resistant 2x10 boards, cut to the width of the tank... and I mounted them inside the boat, in the location that the old tank used to be in. Then I mounted the tank to the boards... using the Brackets. I could have used a strap mounting system... but I didn't find anything that looked as stable as these metal brackets. The walls of the tank feel sturdy enough and should last for as long as the boat does... I will hopefully post photos soon. It's a great product for the money, and is worth it if your old gas tank is giving you problems. I should expect that If I keep adding the Marine Sta-Bil product to each tank fill up... I shouldn't have anymore problems with bad gas... finally!

Great Product at a Great Price
I needed a gas tank for my 21-foot Center Console Gregor Sea-Hawk. This tank, due to it's rotationally molded, cross-linked polyethylene plastic; can withstand the ethanol additives so prevelant in todays fuels. One of the nice features of this tank is the optional Permanent Fuel Tank Hold Down Kit that is available along with an optional kit for fill, return and venting with appropriate hoses and clamping hardware. This tank meets all ABYC, NMMA and U.S. Coast Guard regulation as well. As some of you know already, Moeller is the OEM supplier of gas tanks for a number of boat manufactures out there. The construction of the tank is sturdy and very stiff. The stiffness and quality of the rotationally molded sides and corners indicates a well executed manufacturing process. There was some hesitation on my part as I originally thought that aluminum would be the only suitable material to consider. The cost savings over aluminum along with the sturdy hold down clamps won the day and I am very pleased with the purchase. I have mounted it under my Center Console, so the vent fitting's 360-degree rotation is a nice touch that keeps the hoses looking ship shape under the console. Surprisingly enough the white plastic reflects so much light that interior lighting inside the console consists of a single LED aimed at the top of the tank and it gives plenty of light reflection. Overall I give this product 5 Stars for the cost, construction, weight savings and benefits that cross-linked polyethylene provides. A great product at a great price. Great fuel tank, very durable construction, had to custom fit to 1968 tri-hull, but boat runs totally better !
I could not find an origional Coast Guard Approved marine gas tank for my 1968 Johnson Seasport 155, so I decided to tripple measure the space available, and decided on this 12 gallon Moeller model. The origional cube metal tank held 15 gal, but rusted out. This tank fit in the origional location under the front bow seats deck, but I had to make an extra 1/2 foot longer wooden extension box to cover the tanks rectangular shape. The mounting clamps worked like a charm, the plumbing & wiring was straight forward----best of all, now the boats origional fuel gauge works, and wide open throttle--without starving out for fuel (per factory specs) are above 35mph as long as fuel lasts ! I can again, at a glance, do what I was taught while attending the Boating Safety course given by the U S Coast Guard; Use 1/3 of fuel to get there, 1/3 to get back & 1/3 in reserve ! I would not hesitate to buy Moeller products again & recomend them hands down. Hal J, San Francisco Calif Bay Area.

Geniune Moeller Product & Good Warrant but, Gauge Isn't Consistenly Accurate
Heavy duty durable plastic. I wasn't happy with a few things but Moeller made it right! I was leery at first because I'd read an earlier review about someone saying these weren't geniune Moeller parts but that wasn't true. I had a problem with the tank sucking air which left my outboard starving for fuel and sputtering out at high rpm's. The fuel line comes with a swivel barbed fitting and attached to a straw that goes down in the fuel tank. It has a o-ring around the barbed piece where it goes through the tank. This was letting air get it. When I called Moeller I was nervous about how they'd respond but it was first rate service. They helped me diagnose the problem. Sent me a new piece to install and if wasn't right they guaranteed to send me a new tank. The only thing I'm not crazy about, is the fuel gauge accuracy. Sometimes it will show a quarter tank less than what's actually in the tank. i.e. Shows 1/4 instead of actually 1/2. After I fill the tank up it seems to correct itself. Since the tank can be seen by lifting up my sundeck, I'm not concerned but it may be something to consider when purchasing. Nevertheless, I'm sure Moeller would offer to replace or repair if needed. Mounting hardware I think was the cheapest part of the product. Good Luck.

A pretty good fuel tank
I bought this tank to hold diesel fuel for a generator which is a backup power source in a solar power system for my off-grid home. The Amazon description says it is "Not for use with diesel fuel." If one goes to the Moeller Marine web site one will see that they say it is suited for diesel fuel or gasoline. It has worked fine with diesel fuel over the 7 months it has been in use. One must modify the vent fitting to accommodate a diesel return line, but that is easy enough. The tank is translucent which makes it easy, in my situation, to see the fuel level. I am not using the fuel level sensor, so cannot comment on it. If you are considering this tank, be aware that while it claims to be 14 gallons, the actual usable capacity is about 10.4 gallons. The cost of the tank seems high, but it is well made and more affordable than any alternatives I could find. I have owned boats and would select a Moeller fuel tank for use in a boat which needed a tank.

Performance product
We bought this enhanced model of fuel tank to avoid the rupturing problem experienced by "mold-line" version, i.e. units made from two halves heat-seamed together. This style of tank is cast in one piece and does not split when subjected to heat stress. The build quality is beyond reproach - hooray! As we use it in our RV as an auxiliary fuel tank attached to our generator, the idea that we don't have to worry about it exploding as we tool down the highway in the heat of an Arizona summer brings much comfort. Its been absolutely tight after four months of use with not a drop escaping to cause any grief. Happiness!

Consider the routing of fuel fill line this tank has a vertical fill fitting
Had to replace a 32 yr old aluminum tank in my four Winn’s 160 freedom this Tank was easy to install. Shipping was super quick. The only part I wish I gave careful consideration to was the filler neck it’s vertical and I need a 90 degree bend. Don’t know it I will have an issue with gas laying in the filler neck or a slow fill issue or if there is even a way to Re Route my fuel fill line. It does not come with a 3/8 barb for the fuel feed so you will need that. I ordered the fuel feed fitting when I ordered the tank make sure it’s the anti siphon fitting. It has the spring and ball in it to prevent fuel flowing when engine is off. Some people don’t use this fitting or modify it they do go bad and should be replaced when engine is starving for fuel
