Overachiever!
Absolutely the right brightness for SAD as well as general lighting purposes. Also dimmable for basic ambient lighting. Perfect for bedside night table. Has lasted for years and continues to work perfectly. Not a designer lamp, but blends in well w any decor.

Best Light Therapy Device For Its Price
As a psychiatrist who treats people with mental illnesses, including seasonal depression, my opinion is that this device is the best of the newer, cheaper LED light boxes on the market. Though its light intensity is the same as that of other high quality light therapy devices (10,000 lux), the light is much warmer than that of other LED models and its use of a more traditional angled-down design distributes the light over a broader surface area, creating an overall brighter effect. Experts say that this type of angled-down light gives the user a much better "dose" of light through the eyes than lights that sit flat on desks. My experience confirms this as well. I believe that this unit provides the best quality of light using the state of the art design and technology and is a very good deal for its price.

Good first light therapy lamp
It does it's job. The different light settings are nice so that you can use it as a table lap for projects, not just light therapy. The hinge to change the lamp head angle is simple to use but a bit clunky. I wish you could adjust the height as well. Overall, not bad for the price. Its a good choice if you haven't done light therapy before and aren't sure you'll actually stick with it.

Light the way!!!
After tons of research, I chose this Theralite Aura Bright 1000. It saved me during the gray, dark winter months. I needed my spirits lifted and this lamp did the trick. I recommend following the instructions and do not overdue it if you want it to work for you. Also, establish a routine when you use it. I would use it while having morning coffee and watching the news. Painless!

I improved the positioning issue myself
**UPDATE:#2 Really a best buy a yr and a quarter later: {Purchased 1 time Last purchased Sep 1, 2024} As of 12/18/2025 It's as solid as day 1 and I grab it by the neck tucking it under the side table on which I use it and pick it up next morn for my morning of coffee and time wasting (like now) I used it every day from Sept-April last year and again since Sept '25 I'm assuming those who raise and lower the head every day tightening/untightening the knob may find it less stable but having reversed the head as I demonstrated in original review I haven't so it's rock solid still. I hope they figured out how to offer a comparibly priced model with a rotating lamp head to accommodate balance in any position but as I already have I don't need to shop for another one UPDATE:(1) Four mos & still perfect: I use everyday 30-60 min as in my pics, base backward with lamp hanging over edge of end table 18" fr where I sit at sofa's end, I don't change the angle of the head just set it on floor next to my table after use. I stand happy with my hack of reversing the head to get closer to it. **One thing I discovered is no need to keep tapping the button to get it on/off, raise/lower brightest there is a slight latency before the lamp responds to touch - Just touch & wait a second - the buttons are not badly designed - there's no tactile feeling in touch controls.** -I am a believer at an hour per morning at approximately 18 inches from it Seems to be having an effect but it's not winter yet. The design is stupid as the range of motion is limited, You're unable to raise head to full vertical position leaving it angled slightly downward at highest. The weight and permanent position of base of the base prevents you from bringing light to the edge of a nightstand table. I removed the positioning locking knob pushed on exposed threaded end of hinge pin pulling it out CAREFULLY Gently moved it till the head barely moved enough for both sides to separate (DON'T PULL HARD THERE'S LITLE SLACK IN ELECTRICAL CORD INSIDE) Turned the head had to replace the toothed gear locking discs which fell out so note how they seat so they're like mine seen in my photos returned to the 4 toothed sides of the washers can meet to lock when you return them into place as I did then rocking the hinge pin back carefully flexing the now backwards facing lamp head to find just the minimum amount of flex in the interior cord to pass hinge pin thru then put the tension knob back and tightened in position. Works perfectly now straight up vertical so the stand power base actually seems more firmly weighted in place this way. To all those who's lamp head flopped - *You need to untighten the knob far enough to tilt head easily so the shallow teeth in the washers don't strip and lose the edges and take care to position the head minding that the washer teeth are meeting enlocked b4 tightening the knob FIRMLY so the head doesn't move. I only modified it after I decided that given the price I wouldn't cry if it broke in the 1st 6 mos of use "as-made" so I took a chance and GENTLY reconfigured it knowing I might void any warranty or chance to return but fully expected I might trash it and glad I did. The manufacturer should revisit design making the lamp head able to rotate 360-Degrees

Life changing!
This product changed my life. I live in the midwest. I felt like a grouch every day during the dark days waiting for spring. Low energy. Pessimistic mood. I bought this light in February. I started using it. I did 15 minutes the first day. Then 30 minutes the second day. I use it first thing in the morning. I was driving to work on the second or third day and realized that I wasn't dragging. I wasn't dreading going to work. I remember having the mindset shift that I couldn't complain to myself (or anyone else) on the way to work because I didn't feel that way any more. Thinking gloomy was just a habit, and I needed to adjust my thinking. As daylight has returned, I have cut the time to 15 minutes. During the summer, I may continue to routine but just cut the time to 5 minutes. This light therapy helps so much on overcast days as well. I can't recommend this more. It is a little bulky, so I put it on my kitchen table while I drink coffee and put it away after the timer beeps. I just tuck it in the corner. I wonder if it helps with jet lag when people are resetting their sleep cycle because it is supposed to help with sleep as well.

Poor quality, doesn't last long.
The first was malfunctioned shortly, replaced by seller freely and promptly. The second broken right at the 2-year mark. It doesn't respond to the touch on/off buttons, while the middle of the stem heats up. Like the design and recommended it to a few people, even gifted a friend with one -- Hope hers lasts longer. Too bad I have to take it out of my recommendation list because of the poor quality.

A Lamp that works
This works! I have struggle to wake up in the morning and used this almost daily for the past two months and I have seen a change. It could be a placebo effect but I have seen a good enough change since using.

Not UV free
The light itself is quite nice, very bright, warm light, great for a desk lamp whatever you might be doing. A really big downside being it isn't entirely UV free, I used it for an hour a couple days in a row when I first got it and I got a sunburn on my face and in my Irises. I have used a couple other day light lamps and have not had this issue. Wouldn't recommend until this is fixed. Update: LEDs do emit a very low amount of UV so if on medication that can cause photosensitivity it may have a reaction, however since lowering medication I have not had this issue. Would not worry too much about this, Great daylight lamp.

Summary of Reviews
I’m really glad I read the reviews before I bought this lamp otherwise I may of been a bit disappointed with some of the features and the design. As others have said, it’s top heavy so it can easily topple over if not placed on a secure flat surface. The knob to adjust the lights angle doesn’t work well (probably the worst of it). But in saying that, I adjusted the light once and it’s stayed fine in that position. I will not be fiddling with the adjustments as long as I can help it since others mentioned having problems with it falling out of position. The lamp is not tall enough to have at your desk if you want to be under the light. I would recommend placing it on top of a shelving unit or perhaps sturdy text books. The best part is because it’s a bigger light I find being at a bit of a distance works great, unlike the smaller units that require you to be inches away in order to be affective. Others have mentioned the lamp looks cheap, but honestly I don’t notice, you can tell when you touch it that it’s not the most durable plastic but I think it looks really sharp. I have one additional piece of advice when putting the base and body together when you first get the lamp. The screws are a bit tricky to tighten, but worked well when I put them in at the same time rather than one after another. Overall for the price it’s really good if you don’t mind the design or don’t plan on adjusting the lamp often. Hope this helps! Happy days! :)

Not tall enough for an SAD light
As previous reviewers have mentioned, it is difficult to manage the angle of the light. There is something wrong with the mechanism. To use for SAD purposes, my understanding is that the light should be angled towards your eyes, not straight down, which is where it wants to be. Also, the lamp is not tall enough. I put mine on a book to raise the height, but you would think a "Light Therapy" lamp would take that into consideration. The price is good compared to other sources.
