How do you open this can? I cannot figure out how to open it?

Be careful! A new can should not be sealed that tight. However, once you have had the can for some time and rust appears appears around the threads, BE CAREFUL. This stuff stains and stains badly on anything but leather. I twisted the top off of one and it took me months to get the liquid out from under my nails. Use latex medical glove ALL THE TIME when using. A large set of vice grips always does the trick. Twist slowly and do not fit the grips tightly.

Can i apply this on brand new shoes without wearing? Would I have to prep the shoes or apply directly?

There is a prep procedure listed on the can, but you can apply it without prepping if you please. I use it on my boots I wear for work and strip it every 4 months with steel wool and reapply. Its the best hi gloss luster there is. I also keep a separate new black boot shined up if I work when VIP 's are coming. Its a wonderful product
