How fast do the internal disks spin? 5400rpms or 7200rpms?

I just ran SeaTools for Windows. It reported 5425 rpm.

Can it be kept horizontal instead of vertical?

I keep 2 vertical, and 2 horizontal. Has not made a difference in the several years they've been running.

Is there a way to use this hd without having to use the backup software & can i view files on the hd just like i do on my computers hd?

Yes you can. I have a Mac and just plugged it and used it. It shows on the desktop like an hd.
