JVR 11"x12" Automatic Chicken Coop Door, LCD Timer, Aluminum

I loved the turkey coop door right from the beginning. It is extra large - which is perfect for turkeys and geese. It is very sturdy. Instead of a string, a sturdy metal arm is moving the door up and down. The descriptions are very clear and it was extremely easy to install and program the time. The door worked right away as it is supposed to. Unexpectedly, two weeks later the door did not open - i was in disbelieve and contacted JVR right away - the instructions how to contact JVR are written very clearly on the timer. It was a weekend night, but within a few hours i received a response. The technician asked for details and within minutes he diagnosed the problem, and it was clear that the problem lies in the powersupply. I went back to the coop and noticed that rats had chewed through the powersupply cable! It was a very easy fix and the door works again. The technician send me great suggestions how to protect the cable from rats so this won't happen again. So, my advice to users is that you make sure that the cable coming from the power supply is protected against rats. I can imagine that it is not easy to avoid that rats get into a chicken coop - but it is easy to protect the wires. If you encounter similar problems - don't worry - the tech team from JVR will reply very quickly and will be very helpful. I can highly recommend this product - it works fantastic and it is easy to install and big enough for turkeys and geese.

Considerably more robust than competitors. This is primarily metal, others are plastic. Love the fact that it is plug in and NOT solar or battery powered. Previous two solar powered units were complete failures due to limited hours of direct sun exposure through the trees. Very robust actuator & drive road assembly. Seemed easy to assemble and install, pretty clear written instructions are provided although they also provide quick set up pics/instructions, that imo, leave out too much info. I’ll update if it changes to anything other than what I’ve experienced so far. Operates well, safety mech works great so no one will get trapped in door, but honestly it moves so slowly the bird would have to try to get themselves stuck. It is very quiet and opens nice and slow so won’t startle or scare birds. The controller is in a nicely assembled weather proof outdoor box that will protect the electronics nicely.

Purchased the JVR- HM40G automatic chicken coop door. Looks proffessional. Hubby installed it without any issues. I was able to program the timer without issues. operation of the door opening and closing is perfect, smooth ,quiet. Sent question to support and received a quick reply about the anti pinch sensor, it is actually built in and works great,no additional wires .I tested the door closing with a full 16oz water bottle laying on its side within the doorway and the door worked perfectly and retreated back up quickly and gently. Highly recommend your purchase.

Works good, my first timer did not work consistently but good customer service, they sent me a new timer and now I have no problems. Easy to install, easy to set timer, I found that you may need to hit reset and start fresh as neither timer worked correctly to start with, I actually had to hit reset twice on my new timer and do a trial run by setting timer to open (on) on minute 1 and close (off) on minute 2, that did not work the first time so I hit reset again then it worked fine, I do not know how some people had a tough time setting timer it is very easy and instructions are pretty clear. The only issue is the door is a little flimsy because of being 2 pieces but it is plenty strong also the cutt out for door should be a least an inch smaller in height than the instructions tell you, I made it about 3/4” less and still have a small gap at top when door is closed and small overlap on bottom, will probably put some type weather stripping before winter to close gaps. Overall it is a great convenience having the door open and close automatically, it opens slowly and my birds fight to be the first out squeezing through a small opening, I like that it closes slowly so birds don’t get caught under.

This automatic chicken door opener is fantastic! It has given me peace of mind when I can’t get home or outside right away at night to close the existing hinged coop ‘pop’ door myself after it gets dark, and it’s super nice to know if I sleep in once in awhile, the chickens will be let out without me! The opener can have several open and close timers programmed, one for each day if you want, or just open and close at the same time every day. Programming it is not exactly intuitive with the button labels, but is very simple if you read the instructions. You can also turn off the automatic feature and just manually open and close it by pushing a button in the sturdy weatherproof control box case. There is an adjustable sensor that will stop the door if something is blocking it (like a garage door sensor). The sliding door opens/closes so slowly that I can’t imagine any chicken getting caught under it and killed, even if the sensor stopped working. It is NOT a dusk-to-dawn photocell timer, but rather one where you specify the times to open and close when you program it. Because we already had a pop door on the coop leading into the run before getting this, we had to retrofit the smaller auto door to be sure it sealed out predators and blocked the cold, so it took us more time to install. If you don’t have an existing door or if the opening is sized pretty close to what’s needed for this door, installation should not take you long at all. It also can be installed vertically or horizontally, which can help it fit if your space is limited. We have been using it for 2 months now, including through near freezing temperatures and snow, and there haven’t been any issues at all.

I paid more for this coop door than other options on Amazon because I wanted something reliable, with a controller that could be mounted conveniently by the man door of the coop while the automatic door itself was mounted inside so it wouldn’t ruin the exterior appearance of my coop. I was tired of dealing with cheap automatic doors that constantly had reliability problems and recurring issues, which had previously resulted in losing poultry to predators. I also specifically chose this manual version because I did not want yet another app on my phone or to deal with future problems involving software bugs or unsupported apps. Unfortunately, my experience with this one has also been disappointing. The cable between the controller and the door is only about 3 feet long, which severely limits mounting options. The controller itself also feels very fragile. The connectors can pop out with even slight side pressure, and the wires seem delicate enough that you have to be extremely careful during installation and mounting with such a short cord. For anyone needing a longer cable, the power/output connectors between the door and controller use a 5.5mm x 2.5mm DC barrel connection, so compatible extension cables can be purchased separately. I think the power side is a different size but have not confirmed that with JVR. We had previously read that the connectors were a different size, which led us to order cables that did not fit. Customer service responses were polite and read like AI wrote them but the timing on replacement parts has been frustrating. Responses typically take about a day, and replacement parts ship from China. That means when something fails on a brand-new, expensive coop door, you can end up waiting weeks for parts while manually going outside every day to lock up your poultry. In my case, the replacement process started 10 days ago, and the part has already been sitting at a mainland China international airport for the past 3 days. In the meantime, I’ve had to find people to lock up my poultry on nights when I get home late and delay leaving for work in the mornings so they are not let out too early to avoid night time predators. Overall, the product has not lived up to the premium price.

I’ve had my door since Aug 2021. It’s been extremely reliable and has made my routine with my chickens so much smoother. This year in 2025/2026 we had a very extremely cold winter. I had a slight issue from the cold snap. I had emailed the team at JVR. They provided excellent support and troubleshooting. Our issue was shortly resolved. After 5 years from purchase it’s still the best product on our coop. I prefer this over other doors I came across in my research because of the sense of control I had with setting my own timer for opening & closing. I love that the sensory also provides safety precautions as well.

Installing the door was really easy. After taking the time to read the instructions, the control unit was easy to program. The unit is well built and should last a long time. With just the way it is built I would recommend it. A plus is that parts can be replaced if they go bad. I’ve had two other brands that did not last a year and no support and no repair parts.
