Great sandwich toaster!
This a great sandwich toaster for the price. It’s not very well made but with a little TLC I can see this lasting for quite some time. First off, the latch is both narrow and weak so make sure to manually hold the top down for between 30-60 secs after first adding the sandwich to the toaster. This will allow for enough compression so that the top stays almost all the way closed without having to latch it. Also, it’s important not to fill your sandwiches too much. Think pop tart size versus 1/2 lb meat sandwich. Finally, I find it best to use small square loaves so that they fit nicely without have trim the bread.

If you don't have one you are missing out..
This is our second one of these. We got rid of the first one in a move and we have missed it ever since. The first time we used the new one we were in love again. These are really awesome. If you haven’t used one of these before or tried a sandwich cooked in one of these, you are absolutely missing out. They cook quick and easy and there is an indicator light that tells you when to take it out. ALMOST fool proof. I noticed that the majority of the inside is made of a really nice stick proof material but the front edge of the machine has a similar looking plastic like material that will get messy from time to time as it is not the same material. I wish that it was all the stick proof surface but overall that's not a deal breaker. These are fantastic for kids or BIG kids any time. We did expect there to be a book or an instruction manual but the one we received had no documentation. I guess if we were really interested in the neat recipes we could just look online. These are a must have year round.

go ahead and buy it
UPDATE after a few days of owning. I know it is completely my fault but I dropped it on my linoleum kitchen floor and the front handle with locking latch "exploded" all over my floor. It was like dropping cold peanut brittle. I don't know what kind of plastic they use but I have never had anything shatter into so many small pieces before after dropping it. I really would pay more money to get something built out of better materials. I am sure it will still heat up and cook so we will see. If not I will have to buy another one. I am a little disappointed that they raised the price by about 2 dollars since I bought this last week. ORIGINAL REVIEW**********************I just got it today and made a toasted cheese sandwich. I didn't use any butter and it toasted fine. I will probably add butter next time just to see if the texture is better and if the flavor is better. The spilled cheese didn't stick to the nonstick plates but I am knocking off a point because where the nonstick plates meet the area next to it in front of the handle there is a very small groove where food will and does accumulate. Also the large area in front of the plates is not non stick so any spilled items like cheese stick quite well and increase the effort needed to clean the item. It is a basic $14 machine and I can see a lot of possibilities here for the kids to make their own sandwiches. Mine are young so supervision is a must. I don't care too much how it smashes the bread and makes it more chewy than you might get if you toasted a cheese sandwich in a pan or similar but I am not complaining. The sandwich cooked in right about 3 minutes and I don't recall the preheat time. Either way a hot sandwich is pretty damn quick to make.

Not made for men that need to use force in everything they do lol
This works fine and it won’t break easily if you know how to use it. You can probably tell that all the reviews complaining that it broke were written by men. Men tend to use unnecessary force to use stuff when they don’t know what they are doing. You don’t need to be aggressive with this product lol! Just place your grilled cheese/sandwich and gently close it NO NEED TO TOUCH THE LOCK, it will lock by itself. No need to push hard for it to close and lock! Be gentle! To open, simply and gently press the unlock switch and it will open! Magic right? No need to use force at all. Also, the size is great, I don’t know what some people are talking about here. It fits the regular bread slice size. Very easy to clean and to use if you’re not an ogre. Thanks kay bye

Worth the price
I bought this because I'm always making grilled cheese sandwiches for my 2 young sons. I was complaining one day about always having to drag out the skillet & go through the steps of making a grilled cheese sandwich the way they were made for me. Toast the he bread, butter the bread, preheat the skillet, place bread with slice of cheese in the middle & put in skillet. After purchasing this sandwich toaster it takes me less than 5 minutes to make not 1 but 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. It's so easy & fast that I almost feel lazy using it everyday. My mom had a sandwich toaster like this so having one of my of my own just adds to the memories, plus I get to share those memories with my kids. One day they will grow up & be like "Hey, remember when mom use to break out the sandwich maker! She was the best cook ever!!" Lol Seriously though it is super easy to clean, fast to heat up & I have yet to burn anything. If I had 3 hands I would give it 3 thumbs up for convenience, price & memory making.

Don't expect anything but toasted sandwiches
This was cheap enough to try without getting angry and disappointed. But it's only 700 watts, and could realistically only make fancy toasted sandwiches. If that's all you want, it will work. But, I was sold on the turnover maker idea. I attempted a Thanksgiving leftovers turnover/pizza pocket creation. I put cooked stuffing (dressing), turkey, prosciutto (fancy Italian bacon substitute), cheddar and a small cranberry jelly slice; topped with more cooked stuffing. I "wanted" a Thanksgiving leftovers "sandwich" pocket without using boring white bread. However after 10 minutes it still wasn't warm inside, but smoking, I moved the machine to the stovetop and turned on the kitchen good vent to prevent smoke sectors from making the entire family angry with me and this stupid cheap machine. Eventually I pulled the "food" out after 15 minutes, burnt ash cheese, and caramelized cranberries I couldn't chew had escaped to the cooking plates, while the rest was lukewarm inside. It was edible with side of guacamole, but I was overly excited about the advertised potential of this machine and heart broken from the failure! I don't recommend using half the machine for 1 sandwich creation, it overflowed everywhere, be careful how much ingredients you add, and fill all 4 cavities to prevent thermodynamic failure of an empty HOT side and cooking side It's very difficult to clean! Sure the nonstick cooking plates clean up easy, but the black plastic around the handle near the cooking elements will build up burnt food melted into the plastic, USE SPRAY FOOD LUBRICANT, like Pam, and intentionally get some on the handle area. The next day I tried again, I kept it simple, stuffing, cut the turkey into small baby food size to easily fit into this machine, and cut the paper thin prosciutto; nothing extra that could ruin the moisture level or burn inside. Still had to cook it for 15+ minutes to get the inside warm. I reached the point where I couldn't brown/chrisp the outside without burning it. Maybe hot turkey in the middle would have helped. But I now know this is just a fancy 700 watt toaster, don't attempt the advertised eggs, pizza rolls, turnovers, or try a Thanksgiving leftovers creation masterpiece. I'll stick to the 1,000+ watt waffle iron!

Perfect little appliance!
We’re generational sandwich maker users. My grandma used one, my mom used one, and I have one for my family. This one is perfect! I love that it’s white. Previously, white appliances were much harder to find. So yay for that. It fits a pretty meaty sandwich and seals it nicely. It’s great for kids to keep the messes contained, but it also keeps the fillings nice and moist for hours if you pack a lunch. I’ve made sandwiches with 4/5 fillings and it seals great. Some reviewers have complained it won’t close for a grilled cheese. That’s simply not true. I suspect they’re novice sandwich maker users. You have to push the lid down, and make sure the lock clicks into place. It’s that simple. I use it at least once a day - if not more and I’ve had it for a few weeks no. No issues, no problems. Buy it! It’s a great little appliance!
