Detailing and Upgrading Steam Locomotives (Modeling & Painting)

The latest book from MR Detailing and Upgrading Steam Locomotives is a nice consolidation of the best MR articles on the subject. It includes some very useful information that was written at a time when I was not a subscriber. I would have been nice to see some of the articles updated to today’s world. In all not bad but since it is just a rehash of previously available content 3 stars is the best I can consider.

If you care about getting performance and reality from your scale steam locomotive ~ this is not the book to waste your money on ~ for you'll find the same information contained in this book, between the pages of MR magazine.

Great book, but if your wanting to enhance a specific engine, be sure it is covered here or look for other resources. Model Railroader has articles on many engines in the past, I found a 30 day free offer and was able to find the one I was looking for, but maybe they could consider a database of articles and offer a free download with purchase of the book?

Great photos and written detail on how a steam locomotive actually works and discusses the various parts and how they work in conjunction with other parts of a steam locomotive.
