This is a nice floyd rose guitar for the price
This is a nice floyd rose guitar for the price. I had never owned one before and have grown to love this one even thou its the special, it may wear out quicker but thats ok because I'm looking foward to upgrading it myself and learning more, meanwhile, this one stays in tune better than I expected, very solid really. I think its a really good guitar for learning the floyd rose since I won't be afraid to work on it. Other than that, the neck is impressive, feels very nice, the entire guitar seems well balanced and easy to move around. The pickups are great, I'm usually just using the single coil on the neck but pull the knob and you add the humbucker for a fuller calm sound, the single coil by itself can produce some great tones. No tone control but thats the type of guitar it is, meant to use with pedals and amps. The volume pot on the one I have is a little flakey, not suitable for use while playing but I don't really mind, I just turn it all the way up and use pedals. I think this is an all around great beginner guitar and also good to check out if you have been on the other side of things with Les Pauls and such and want to experiment with lock nuts and no tone controls :)

Happy so far
This guitar replaced a LTD EC-401 VF. Same guitar (even color) but built in Korea or Indonesia instead of Japan. Think of Epiphone compared to Gibson. This is a well made beautiful guitar and plays great. (have not done a "set up" yet.) Play thru a Blackstar HT Venue stage 60 2x12.You can tell the difference in components (locking tuners, 3 way switch feels more solid, etc) Overall quality and craftmanship? I wonder if the ESP is THAT much better than the ESP LTD. ( $600 vs $1500) I have owned the 401VF for about 5 years. Put on some locking tuners. Only problem is 3 way switch never worked well. Other than that, no problems and sounded pretty good. As you're reading this you are probably asking: Why buy the new guitar? My answer is: Because I wanted it...:)Also, a note to Amazon. You might want to take the shipping invoice from ESP guitars out of the box before you ship to customer. WOW! HUGE mark up!

LTD vs. ESP Custom
I own both the LTD and ESP custom shop of the George Lynch Kamakazi. As far as FIT: exactly the same. If you have small to medium hands this probably is not the guitar for you, neck is not wizard thin, both guitars offer the same profile neck. LTD rosewood, ESP Ebony. However the LTD has a silky smooth finish where the ESP has kind of a grainy, not as silky smooth finish. Winner LTD. FUNCTION: this guitar has a hot humbucker, not as hot as a screamin demon, but I can easily achieve pinch harmonics and the like. The single coil on this, not so good. Muddy. Push pull pots are always a nice touch. Floyd rose special stays true, do I really need to explain a Floyd rose? Winner ESP custom. FINISH: This is where things get foggy. The color combination on the LTD seems to have one less tan color than the ESP. Also, the bombs on the treble side on the LTD have a kind of silvery sheen, almost metallic flake to them. The ESP...white. Other than that, they are pretty identical, love that they kept the recessed input jack on the LTD as on the ESP version. Winner: tie. Overall, I actually prefer the LTD to the ESP as I don't feel guilty if I drop or ding it, these are big body guitars, the head stock is massive and again, the neck takes some getting used to on both of these. Honestly a better choice for a better fit and finish with more versatility would be the Jackson SDX Adrian Smith. However, on that guitar the truss rod adjustment requires the neck to be removed. The LTD has the truss rod adjustment on the head stock.

Not just a great guitar for the price. Just plainly put, it's a great guitar!!!!!!
Yes I know it doesn't say ESP on the headstock. Here's the thing, the fretwork is better than my $1200 strat. The pickups are great for what you are paying for with this guitar, the humbucker is thick and meaty with a nice high end sizzle so you also get great articulation. The single coil does what a single coil is supposed to, it chimes, with overdrive it gives a great classic Hendrix neck pickups tone. The neck pocket is tight with no gaps. The finish is flawless, and even though it doesn't have an Original floyd, but the Floyd Special Trem, I can find no fault with it. It stays in tune as well as my Original Floyds under EXTREME abuse. This thing is one EASY guitar to shred on, but is also VERY versatile. It just looks cooler than most do everything guitars. One other bonus: It has the same U shape neck contour as the Kamikaze. If you feel the need to upgrade to the Original Floyd, a TB12 (Screamin Demon) like the Kamikaze you will still come in at 1/4 the price and have a great instrument. But you should just try playing as is, as this thing blows my other guitars away at 1/2-1/3 the price. Need to hear it first? Check out my page www.aladams.bandcamp.com/music and give a listen to Meeooow Mix and Flight of the Angel as I used this guitar for both instrumentals.
