... have ever owned and not only is it the best one by far
This is the third helicopter that I have ever owned and not only is it the best one by far, it is also the cheapest one. My first two were Micropter brand sold at walgreen's for $19.99. When I bought my first one I was sold after learning how to fly it, even though in comparison to the Syma 108, at about 3/4 the size, the Micropter was junk. No tail propeller, meaning no back and forth motion. Forward momentum was constant with throttle. Regardless it was my first venture into the world of r/c helicopters and I loved it. It lasted a few months before the battery died and wouldn't charge, so I went back to Walgreen's and got another one. (for 20 bucks i wasn't even upset about 3 month life span with many crashes). The second one stopped flying straight after 3 days and I threw it in the trash before I thought better of it. A few months later (last week) I saw some Syma product's here on amazon and at 14.99 and 18.99 respectively, I purchased the 108 cobra and the 109 apache. I purchased 2 because after my personal experience with r/c choppers and subsequently reading some bad reviews for even these syma choppers, i decided it was worth the money to get 2 and up my chances of getting at least 1 chopper with no issues. When my package arrived (free shipping that came a day before schedule) I pulled the 109 out first for a test flight. I was smiling from ear to ear for that first minute of flight. Hover capability, forward AND backward control separate from throttle, and perfect control and balance after a little trimming. (keep in mind any air flow in room will move chopper around slightly). The smile faded from my face after a couple 45 minute charge sessions and i realized the battery was not powerful enough to keep the helicopter in the air for more than 3 minutes. With a slight smirk at my foresight, I reluctantly pulled out the 108 cobra. Without charging it, I immediately set it to flight. Just like the apache, It flew and controlled flawlessly. The only difference is this had a spring loaded throttle, whereas the apache had a free floating throttle. My previous Walgreen's choppers had made me accustomed to a spring loaded throttle so this change was not necessarily bad, though I can certainly see the benefit of a free throttle as well. Also, the 108 cobra needs much less space to land due to the different landing gear. To my surprise and relief, the battery kept the chopper airborne for 10 minutes before it slowly descended. After charging fully I get 12-16 mins of flight time, depending on how much i land and take off again. I was used to about 7 minutes with my walgreens choppers so this extra flight time was a dream to me. I have since returned the apache to amazon and have continued to smile in glee as I walk my cobra all around the house. This little guy is all that I wanted and more, and at 14.99 it will surely soon have some sibling choppers to fly around with. Well worth the hassle of buying 2 to get a good one. COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. P.S keep in mind that these are toys with tiny motors, THAT FLY. With all the moving parts, one must understand that they will not always come perfect and and will certainly not stay perfect forever without regular maintenance. Try not to blame Syma too much for their shortcomings (faulty arrivals, shorts life/battery spans), and remember they are giving us TOYS that FLY for UNDER $20. Keep up the good work SYMA! Also, the return of my 109 apache was smooth and seamless with amazon. Less than 24 hours after I sent a return request to amazon, a ups man was at my front door with a shipping label to pick up my helicopter, which I had put right back in the shipping box I got it in. It took 3 days for my refund. Fast service all around.

Great R/C Helicopter
I've just recently gotten into the mini RC helicopter world, but man, these things are a blast. Yes, they are only good for 4-10 minutes, then you have to recharge, but those 4-10 are a fun. I am quite amazed at how easy they are to control, how sturdy they seem to be and how great they look for under $30. I now have two of the copters and I'll give you my impressions. First, they both are Syma, which from reading other reviews and experience, seem to be the best or near best for this entry level (less than $30) item. My brother bought a different brand and model from Sears, it is almost impossible to fly. It needs constant trim adjustments, so anything beyond just up and down is tough to do. Based on that experience and my experience with the 2 Syma models I purchased, I'd be very hesitant to recommend anything other than a Syma. The first helicopter I bought based on reviews mostly, but also talking with some friends who had purchased rc helicopters, was the Syma S108G. It is modeled after a Marine Cobra and looks excellent, a very cool looking helicopter, IMO. The remote has 3 channels (A, B, C). I call this out, because my second purchase, the Syma S102G (modeled after an Army Blackhawk), has 2 only channels (A, B). Not sure why there is a difference, since other than that, the remotes appear exactly the same. I have a sneaking suspicion that the quality control varies widely among these "cheap" rc's so I wouldn't be shocked to purchase another S102G and end up with a 3 channel remote (again, just speculation on my part). For me, having only 2 channels might be an issue, since my daughter (12) and father (65+) have also been bitten by the mini-helicopter bug (so that will be 3 of us flying these things around at times), so that 2 channel remote may become an issue. On to comparing the Syma S108G & Syma S102G. First, there is not a huge difference between the two and I suspect that the differences I`ve noticed have to do with quality control and may not hold true to every S102G & S108G, but here's what I've noticed. The S102G seems to be more stable. The body is more "boxy" and might weigh just a bit more, maybe that comes into play? TheS108G seems slightly more responsive, but that also means it can get out of control pretty quick if you aren't real smooth on the remote. The S108G feels like it is faster, but we're talking barely. The S102G is easier to land in a tight spot or more accurately, as the S108G tends to "float" or rock back and forth when you go from flying forward to hovering. I like the look of the S108G better, but that just a personal preference, as both look great. I had both for a little while now and both have hit the wall, floor, table, etc. pretty hard with no signs of damage. Just for reference, my 12 yr old daughter can fly these just as well as I can, my 10 yr old has more trouble. You do have to be able to make very subtle changes and adjustments when you are flying to keep from shooting into the ceiling or wall. The S102G lasts a bit longer per charge (about 8-9 minutes) than the S108G (4-6 minutes), but I suspect that this is more "luck of the draw" than anything else. If I had to only pick one of the two, I'd probably go with the S102G, but it's a real close call. One note when I compared it to the Sears purchase, the Syma have a spring loaded throttle stick, so when you let off, they return to "off", the Sear model has a free floating throttle, so it stays wherever you put it. I think I like that feature, and might see if there is a Syma model that has it. The Sears model also has the trim control on the top right of the remote and you use your index finger to adjust it, which is much easier than the single dial stick in the center of the remote like the two Syma models. Again, it seems as though the Sears was better designed than the Syma, but it was still almost impossible to fly. So even with what appear to be better features on the Sears helicopter, my next purchase will still be a Syma. Hope this review helps you in your search, I do plan to buy another Syma (maybe the Coast Guard looking model), I'm curious to see how it compares.

Fun heli with only minor flaws... but great for the price
This is a fun little heli. For $25 or less, you can't go wrong. I only have a couple beefs with it: 1. Sometimes the heli will just move on its own, even if you are only depressing the throttle for hover. I know this sounds weird, but I experienced this a lot. Not sure if it was just the central air conditioning in my house kicking air around and therefore moving the heli or what. But it makes the heli slightly unpredictable which will lead to crashes. 2. Forward/Backward movement started out great. Over a couple days however, it grew much, much slower. I looked at the rear rotor and realized that it slid down to the very bottom of the pin. I'm not sure, but it may have been rubbing on the tail of the heli and therefore not spinning as fast as it should have been. I would pull it back up, but it didn't seem to change much. I will say I was pleasantly surprised at the durability of this little heli. I crashed it probably 100+ times in the first week or so and it didn't seem to phase the heli at all. After about a week however, one of the rear wings on the tail came off. Not a big deal. Little superglue had it looking as good as new. Not long after that, one of the missile clusters came off. Once again, not something that superglue couldn't fix. The good part is that the important and moving parts (ie. blades, rotors, etc) all remained in tact. I even accidentally knocked over a large framed photo (10 X 17), which fell right on top of the heli, and it didn't brake anything. Much to my surprise. It is pretty easy to fly. After a couple tries, I could fly it through a number of different obstacles without any problems. Beware however that when the battery starts dying, it can become unpredictable. (Especially the altitude) Overall I would recommend this heli. I have had to send two back however. The first one, the remote did not work, and the second one just stopped responding the remote. No worries. I will be ordering another one soon.

S108G
So hello guys! I want really to write a nice review which will help you in choosing or not this product! Will add a clip as well! I have a lot Helis including the S107G! What I want to tell you? I`ll start from a distance: 1.You should know that there are a lot of clones or call`em fakes out there. Not in amazon thou...I haven`t seen here any clones or copies of SYMA`s yet! 2. Every heli even from the same model is different! How? I had a couple of S107G and they all were different: speed, rotation...so now I left for me the fastest one from the S107. 3. You need to learn how to maintain your heli and how it works! How to fix it, if somethings gets wrong or fine tune it! My S108G did not fly perfect right out of the box...It was excellent but...not perfect, but I fixed that for about 20 mins. 4. At least what I have seen and read...I think the S107G is the most durable and defect free heli from SYMA and in overall if you are starting with the RC helis...better choose the 107! Yes they are both 3 chanels: up/down, rotate left/right, move forward/backward. Syma has 4 chanel chopper which actually have the tilt left/right - S800G if I don`t mistake now! 5. If you choose SYMA which is wise actually because they make very nice and cheap products, search one with a gyro (it is very difficult to fly one without and it`s not fun!) So in the end "G" is for gyro! On the market they write S107/S107G and they will send you the one with the gyro, so no worries! SO NOW FOR THE S108G: - it`s a lot faster than the S107G but, it`s lighter and this makes it a lil bit unstable- don`t get me wrong it`s stable and hoovers really nice, but the smallest wind or change in aerodynamics can mean a disaster! - it has a really nice details on the hull...it`s all plastic and it`s still tough, believe me! - the remote is really 3 chanel...what I mean: you can really fly 3 different S108Gs at the same time (not like the S107G wich is 2 chanel) The remote is not compatible with every Syma...but it is compatible with the Chinook. So you can fly it with the chinook remote if you already have one! It`s compatible with a few SYMAs as well! - about the different parts durability...my S108G`s baterry died at the same time with the motor for the upper rotor and this happened after 5-6 days! I read that the S109G which is 10$ more than the S108G has some factory problems with the mottors and they die very fast, even some sellers stoped selling them! I don`t know, maybe I was just unlucky with my 108, so it took me about 40 minutes to change the motor and put a 240mah battery and did again some small tunings, so now it flys better than before! I could return it thou but...too much trouble for that! I`m a lil bit heli freak so I had the parts at me from another syma! - again about the part (compatible) : it has the same plastic frame, motors, battery, gears, shafts, wings, balance bar and etc. like the S107G. Different are the mother board and the S107G has some plastic stuff in addition which helps to assemble the metal frame to the plastic one! So if you already have broken 107 and you a moving to 108, you can use the spare parts! I don`t know about the other one SYMA`s but I think most of them use the same parts. You can browse that thou. - repairs: they can be very fast...but you must be very gentle and have a lot of patience! I know that there a not so many parts for S108G out there, but like I said, the S107G parts are complete match so no worries! I`m currently on APO address so you can imagine how I fix the little thingy...with nail cutter, lighter, screwdriver and duck tape - no soldering or anything...you can use whatever you have by hand! Man, how hard was to find and make a screwdriver! - flying: It is stable, fast, and light! It`s for indoors only, but if you are good enough you can fly this thing outside in no or small wind! - charging: You will find how to maintain the battery of the heli down below! You can charge this thing with: 1.wall charger: the led turns from red to green 2.USB charger: it starts to shine bright when charged 3.remote: actually the remote switches off when the battery of the heli is charged, but DO NOT rely on that! PROBLEMS AND FIXES: - the so called TOILET BLOW EFFECT: If your heli starts to spin around in circle, but stable with the nose always forward you probably have a bent "fly"/stabilization bar or a problem somewhere with the top rotor! I know it`s annoying so fix it! Take apart the fly bar and use a clip in the middle of it, to see if it`s balanced, if not balance it with duck tape at the end, where it`s needed! If doesn`t fix it, try to see if it`s moving without any effort and if not, correct that by playing with the 2 plastic things which connect it to the rotor. If this is not the problem so take a look at the upper rotor and wings. Is there some kind of space there? The plastic black thing which holds the blades must not move around the teeth of the plastic part of the shaft! It should only tilt the blades forward and backward. You want to restrict every other movement! If it moves, take s screwdriver and fix that, by tightening the screws. If it can`t be done - take it apart and peel it a lil bit with a sand paper 400-600 or if no sand paper, use the extras on your nail cutter! And that should do it, or at lest lower the circles the heli is doing! - vibrations: not a big deal but if you want to fix that: try balancing and tight the wings with the same effort! That should fix that. - moving in left or right: easy-just balance the heli ...with duck tape near the landing gear for example! - no lift power- so the wings a rotating but the thing is not moving. Bad battery! This is a LIpo battery and if you overcharge it, it will die! If you heat it or puncture it- it will explode! Again if battery falls under a certain voltage it will die! So care for your battery! Wait before and after charging, so the battery can loose the heat and DO NOT overcharge! When you are not using your chopper for a long time DO NOT hold the battery charged. In the best case it will become bigger only, but that is only in the best case! It is normal for batteries to loose charge after time so...if not using it, rest the battery in 50% charge! - if the LED starts to blink during flight (it will crash) or once it lights and than starts to flash: you probably have a problem with the connections between motors and MB or battery and MB, or Gyro and MB! When battery falls under 3V the LED will flash and will disconnect the power to the motors! It is normal, because it works like protection, but DO NOT leave it to fall to that phase! This are the most common problems! Don`t worry if your heli is rotating faster to one of the directions than the other - it`s normal! The LED in front it`s not just a LED! It tels ya when the heli is ready to fly and the gyro is online! When you turn the heli on it flashes - put it on a level surface for a sec or two, and the motherboard and the whole system is online! Always try to put it on level surface when the heli tries to get the axis! And for all the other problems, I`m sure you can think of yourself, if not you can always ask me! In overall the S108G is a nice heli! it`s between the fast and maneuverable S109G and the heavy and stable S107G It can take a lot of punishment and it`s a Cobra with detailed fuselage! 107 and 108 are about 20$ and the 109 is 30$ so you choose! I like mine, no matter for the trouble it gave me! For the price and the quality, the SYMAs heli`s are great! P.S. Excuse me for my language and if I din`t put the review in a nice order, but I didn`t have a lot of time! I`ll answer to every question about maintaining! Thank you for your time by the way!

Another Dud from SYMA! JUNK!
I'm not new to these SYMA helicopters so my review isn't from lack of knowing how to operate one nor some other technical issues. First of all after a complete charge it did not fly upwards but instead would spin slightly in a circle and drop to the floor from the coffee table. I adjusted the trim and tried again but still a circle and no sufficient lift for the heli to actually fly. OK, now I'm upset so I noticed something else. My remote controller has a spring loaded throttle, (which I preferred), but the other reviews I seen said that theirs' wasn't spring loaded so I had a red flag there. Also the tail end of this copter has the word "Dancer" on it. I had already sent back a SYMA Chinook two weeks ago that also had that name on it. I'm not sure but I think that name is their newer versions of these copters and the Chinook did the exact same thing. Not enough power to fly. Maybe the battery isn't powerful enough to take a good charge but regardless I tried it again and drained the battery and allowed it to rest for an hour before another attempt on recharging. Guess what?.... Same thing!.. I am in the process of requesting for a refund and will never buy this model again. The Apache 109G , I believe, and the Coast Guard version I have fly great and smooth! If SYMA continues to make and sell these defective helicopters then they will be hurting soon so I hope it's just an issue with them with just a few. Read the latest 20 reviews to decide. If there are more negative than positive things to say then maybe you should reconsider on purchasing this model. Now the crappy part on sending it back for the refund. I'll keep you posted if there's a problem. Amazon usually has no problem with this. Good luck but I'd steer clear of this one!

A great Mini Heli
This helicopter was utterly amazing the first time I charged it and flew it. It was hard to keep it off the ceiling! It had plenty of kick and was quick all the way around. It was easy to fly, and it took the minor crashes it went through very well. Unfortunately it does not age well. I have had it for about 3 weeks and the performance has steadily dropped. Now on a full charge it barely makes it to the ceiling. One flight after a minor crash the bottom rotor stopped working, after I finally got the blade to start spinning it was underpowered and took a lot of trimming to get it to fly again, and it did not stay working. After not using it for the last few days I decided to charge it and get the most fun out of it while it still worked at all, but it would not take a charge. I left it on the charger for an hour and a half and it never took a charge. For the first few days it was amazing, it is a shame that it didn't last very long. Well I guess you get what you pay for.

Awesome!!!
I received this helicopter yesterday. I have flown it about 10 times already. All I have to say is that this thing is a blast! I already had a new Syma S107G before I purchased the S108G. The S107G is a great little RC helicopter. It flies great and is very durable and controllable. With that being said I think the S108G is the better of the two. It is a 3.5 channel, so it is a bit more maneuverable than the S107G. It is also faster. I think that can be attributed to the fact the the S108G has a very light plastic body, whereas the S107G has both metal and plastic. The lighter material likely gives the S108G an advantage. This does not mean that it is not durable though. I have crashed it several times already and have not had a single issue. It also has a very bright light on the front of it. You can actually fly this thing around in a dark room and see where you're going. I like chasing the cats around with it. It has so much control that you can basically fly it anywhere in the house. Just avoid ceiling fans and angry wives! My wife keeps saying she's going to smash it because I keep flying it over her head while she's laying on the couch. I can't help it! It's fun! I also really like the realistic Cobra body. I spent several months in the Middle East on an air base when I was deployed. We had several AH-1 Cobra's stationed there, along with Blackhawks, Chinooks, and CH-53's. I always liked to watch the Cobra's fly in and out of the base. They are some mean looking helicopters. One thing I always liked is that they always moved with extreme precision. If you've ever seen one fly you know what I'm talking about. The one thing I did not like about the S108G is that it did not come with a USB or a wall charger. Thankfully, my S107G came with both, so I just plugged the USB charger cable into my phones AC charger. Now I can charge it via a regular wall outlet. I paid $18.00 for it through Amazon, so I am not complaining. For that price you can just buy an extra charger and you still won't be spending much. If you're thinking about buying the S108G then you should just click the buy button. It's worth it.

It is a blast but not really a toy. EDITTED TO ADDRESS NEGATIVE REVIEW COMMENTS
This is my third indoor RC helicopter, all purchased within a month of each other and finally submitting to the urge to own one. I received my BS in Aerospace Engineering almost 20 years ago which included a technical elective in helicopter aerodynamics and design so I have always loved helicopters and been hesitant to jump into an RC one for the reason that the only ones with reasonable levels of control were prohibitively expensive. That has changed. My first two were an Airhogs Twin Vortex (fun but still too little control I found) and a U809 Cobra (very similar to the SYMAS108G but launches missiles). The SYMA S108G wins for pure flyability. This thing rocks and while not as fast as the U809 is far easier to control and much quieter. The detail of the airframe is also impressive. Like most of the counter-rotating coaxial helos out there this one has no ability to move side to side. You control power for altitude, Yaw (turn left/right) and a small vertically mounted tail rotor pitches the helo forward or back causing it to move in that direction. That is not the mechanism used to control a real Cobra but it is plenty for this RC aircraft and to include that level of control would add significantly to the complexity and cost. I was shocked at how little tuning this needed out of the box. A little power and it hung there in front of me almost perfectly still. This is a light helo though and any breeze is going to be an issue. Even getting into a tight space may result in the blast from the rotors coming back to buffet your helo. Another important thing to understand is GROUND EFFECT!!! When close to the ground the air moving off the rotor blasts directly off the ground significantly increasing the effective force. This has two notable effects: 1. Close to the ground you can continue to hover with less power, especially when the battery is almost dead. 2. A slight bit of forward or backwards pitch will send this helo flying easily 5x faster than when higher off the ground. The acceleration is sudden and impressive. To avoid crashing and breaking just kill the power and you should harmlessly plop to the ground from the couple inches you were in the air. Regaining control at that speed and altitude without dropping is not easy! Another big plus over the U809 is the rapid availability of spare parts! Until you get the touch down to controlling this you will find yourself pinning it to the ceiling before it drops uncontrollably to the ground and has something break off. Small drops and bumps isn't a problem but this is not a toy you set an 8 year old loose with. I purchased a 110 converter/charger for this helo for $5 and love it. I find my self swapping from one helo to the other while charging. If I could change one thing it would be the power control lever on the controller. It is spring loaded to drop to zero power. I may open the controller and remove the spring. This will allow one to hover without fighting the spring in the stick. EDIT: In reading the many negative reviews for this helicopter they all seem to go right back to the fact that this is NOT A TOY FOR CHILDREN. Seriously, you need to have very fine motor control skills. The majority of kids and a fair share of ham fisted adults jam the throttle all the way, crashing into the ceiling, then floor, or bounce it off other objects in their household. If it no longer flies right after having flown fine it is BECAUSE YOU CRASHED IT. Look at the rotor linkages to see if they have broken or separated. Spares are available. Kids today are raised on video game controllers where lack of finesse results in restarting their level. That doesn't apply here. If the helo is very unstable or you notice the blades flopping about rather than spinning smoothly odds are you did something to cause it.

I just love this little cobra
What a cool toy. I had one RC helicopter like that before made by Protocol but that helicopter cannot compare. This cobra is extra easy to control. It also looks awesome. There is strong white LED light located in the front when the chopper is on.It can be charged through the remote or to save batteries through usb drive. Overall awesome, awesome toy! Highly recommended.

The AH-1 Cobra has always been my favourite. These guys made my day by shipping them to me right on time. The chopper files great and reflexes are sharp. Very durable in design bucause it crashed couple times and nothing broke. Syma makes good quality stuff. I am impressed.

Fun little helicopter for the kids
Fun little helicopter for the kids. I bought one on eBay before and bought another one here on Amazon. The price was right so why not? Controls work well, and you can fly this thing surprisingly long for something that charges through USB on your computer. One issue is that it seems that the battery life degrades over time. You can buy the parts and battery online, but after shipping etc, you might as well buy a new one. That's what I did here on Amazon.
