Update 2022: Just bought a second pair of these. Like them even more. Our steep, long driveway has been iced over for weeks. It's treacherous to get up and down. Even my car with studded tires can't make it up and down - despite gravel and sand we shoveled out. These cleats are clearly superior - they have metal teeth that, working with your weight, dig in very solidly to ice. I leave my cleats on my boots. That way I'm ready to go. Note: I find it's useful to pull up the heel tab before trekking - to make sure the chains are snug. ----- Excellent grip. You'll feel totally confident on snow and ice, and on steep inclines. Very comfortable/natural to wear. Very easy to get on and off -- unlike STABILicers. I'm thrilled with these. Very happy with the purchase. I actually look forward to putting them on and taking them off. (I disliked fussing with getting the STABILicers on and off.) I live in the woods in NH, at the bottom of a steep, long unpaved driveway. Was concerned these might not be appropriate for the driveway because the conditions on it vary widely -- which means often it has patches of sand, ice, snow, dirt. But they work perfectly. My gait is stable regardless of what I'm walking on. I feel way more confident in these than in the STABILicers I had. Wish I had tried these earlier -- I was under the misconception -- due to the impressive spikes -- that these were only for deep snow/ice. Had been using STABILicers - 1st pair (2014), the heel rubber strap broke. 2nd pair (2018) had a better design (double heel strap) but side strap broke, and they no longer shipped with nylon cross straps to keep them solidly on your foot. Often I'd "lose" one - it'd get stuck in the snow. I tried using 2 oversized pair -- belonging to a guy I know -- and didn't experience the rubber strap breaking but these would also occasionally get left behind in the snow too. (When wearing STABILicers you're often not aware when this happens, which can be dangerous. You can't "feel" it -- you discover it when your foot starts slipping.)

I had to come back and write a review for these! I bought them last winter and I loved them. As you can see I can now trial run during winter. A huge game changer! They didn’t break, rust or fail me. I did wonder if they would hold up during the spring when I was running on muddy snowmelt which is gravely with small rocks. No problems at all. I’m glad theres a carrying cloth pouch for them because when you’re done using them they are dirty, wet and sometimes muddy. I can put them in the pouch and then nothing in my backpack gets dirty. Then I bring them home, rinse them off, let them dry and they are ready for another outdoor adventure! I even bought a pair for my friend so that she could trail run with me. She loved them too. I call them “my claws” because they grip to any surface keeping me safe and upright. These opened up new possibilities that before I couldn’t even conceive were possible! I wish I had these years ago. p.s. ~ I’m going into winter 2023 with these, if they fail me, I’ll be back to let you know.

My first hike using EnergeticSky cleats was great. 2-6 inches of dry snow. However, my second hike was in 6-12" of snow that turned mushy as the day wore on -- see picture of snow covered cleat. If you look closely at the heel you will see a ball of snow -- it is really compressed to an ice ball. I'm sure as a kid you may have had a snowball fight or built a snowman with some of this type of snow. The cause of this clumping into a ball on the heel of my cleats is that the cleats are too big. They are made for hiking boot sizes 11-14, and the silicone webbing does not tighten them enough for my size 12s. There is a lot of extra cleat I do not need. Enough that even drawn as tight as possible on my boots, the cleat chains flapped at the heel making snow balls. My fellow hiker recommended removing one link of chain from front and rear of both sides of the cleat. Back in my garage I did this, but found that the cleat rode too far forward -- look closely at the pictures of the mounted cleats and you will see how one set rides way too far forward. You want the aft spikes to be centered on the heel and the forward spikes to be centered on the front of the boot tread. His modification worked for him, but not me. My solution for a good fit on a man's size 12 hiking boot: Remove two chain links from each side of the heel. See picture with chains centered on heel. Count the remaining links. This leaves only one link on each side of the heel. This got my cleats riding correctly on the heel of the boot with no play. I used the tools pictured -- what I had on hand -- along with a Workmate. Removing the links: Do not remove welded links -- just those you can pry apart (see pix of removed links). I used a homemade punch. Use what you have as long as it is tapered and when inserted in the chain link will spread the link apart so it can be removed. Once the punch is started in the link with a hammer, I placed it over a hole in my Workmate and give it a couple hits. To relink the remaining chain, fit the link back in with the open space facing the cleat side that will be against the sole of the boot. I used heavy duty needle nose pliers and a hammer to re-close the link. The vice grips just help stabilize things and save fingers. Tips: Some people have breakage issues with cleats. Cleats, like tire chains, need to be mounted correctly. If there is a kink or a twist in a link of chain, it will most likely break. So when you put these on, look -- or have a hiking partner look -- to ensure there are no kinks or twists. I'm sure removing links will end the warranty, but hiking with snowballs could end my ankles. I figured it was worth it to get them to work. Happy Hiking!

Broke my leg slipping on ice the year before I got these. These were EXCELLENT, a big help! I felt much more condo wearing these in icy conditions. Easy to use, held up through the season, will hopefully be able to get a few more seasons out of them.

These came quickly to central NY state. These are pretty savage. Don’t be wearing your boots in the house! Not really even in the barn. These are really for being outdoors. They fit my main hunting boots well and seem to be staying in place. I wish the Velcro strap was longer so I could attach it more toward my heel. So far these seem like good bang for the buck. They seem like they will hold up pretty well. We will see.

I used to own a pair of Yaktrax that was gifted to me for Christmas, which eventually fell apart and did not do the job I needed them to do anymore, and the rubber pieces were breaking so I no longer had full coverage of the bottom of my boots. I started looking for a replacement and found these. I only use them when I am clearing my driveway during the winter, but my driveway is a bit of a slope and can be dangerous to walk on when it is icy. These things are absolutely AMAZING. I no longer have to penguin-shuffle when walking through the snow and ice, I can walk completely normal with confidence and never slip even in the iciest of winters. It is a little bit of work to put these on and get them situated properly, but it is well worth the time. I find it easier to put them on the boot and then put the boots on. They fit snug and never move until I take them off. I will be buying more of these to have as spares and give as gifts.

i don’t live in an area that expects a lot of snow, and can usually find trials free of ice, so this was my first experience shopping for micro spikes. since this was for a weekend excursion, i shied away from spending name brand outdoor industry prices, especially since taking them on a plane meant i had to check a bag. i didn’t expect to be impressed, but i actually was. these were easy to take on & off. they were comfortable to walk in & provided ample traction & confidence on the icy sections of trail. i didn’t feel they were too heavy to carry for our day hikes, but that might be a consideration when reducing weight is necessary. i made sure to dry them after, and haven’t seen any rust. i won’t use these much at home, but i’m happy with the purchase & may take some local icy hikes in the Smokies next year now that i have them. absolutely worth it.

We've now used two pairs of these micro spikes for at least a dozen 4-8 mile hikes on snow and rock covered Colorado mountain hikes. They still look and act like new, with no signs of bent or broken spikes or links. The size LG's nicely and securely fit both my wife's size 10 hiking boots and my size 11 boots (tightly), with no slippage or twisting on the boots. Depending on snow conditions, they'll occasionally get a snow clot on the ball or heel, but easily knocked off against a rock or tree. Traction on 20-30% icy inclines is outstanding. We'd definitely recommend them! April, 2023 Update: After 2 1/2 years with these, we still love them and stand by them. The absolute only issue we've had is with mine very rarely slipping off my Oboz Winter Boots. So, last week, it happened and I lost one of the pair. I'm now re-ordering them and thrilled to see they've added a strap above the toes to better secure them from slipping off. So 5 Stars, from us!
