Over 49 MPG now!
Another K&N Air filter for my recent purchase! I just love these air filters. They really do work. It fits great in my 2012 Camry Hybrid XLE and improves the gas mileage. Toyota says that it is supposed to get 43 MPG in the city but I have been getting 49 MPG with Prolong in the gas when traveling at 40 mph to 50 mph on long roads. I know I can do better than that as I am running on a full hybrid battery charge without the gas motor on when I park it and it could go miles farther in EV mode. I just never get to drive it far enough to find out. The gas mileage depends on whether the EV battery is fully charged or not. I get the good mileage on the way back after the battery is charged so I could go way over 50 mpg on the way back but not until the battery is fully charged first on the way up. The air filter helps the most for gas mileage improvement on highway driving by allowing more air to get ram flowed into the air filter housing. The increase in ram forced air into the motor helps greatly in both power and gas mileage. About 50 mph is the sweet spot for gas mileage as the K&N air filter rams a lot of air in and the air resistance is not too bad while the EV motor is efficient as well. The EV motor does not work as efficiently at fast speeds so over 50 mph is not so good as 50 mph for optimal mpg. I get over 50 mpg when driving long distances at 50 mph with 200 horse power, I just have not had chance to prove it past 49 mpg regularly yet! I just had to come brag. The tire sipping helped too. As far as the air filter goes, they are great but you want to keep a new on as a spare. That way if yours goes bad you do not have to service it and then use it soon afterwards. These are hard to service correctly without experience as they tend get too much oil which then can throw off sensors if done excessively. You service the air filter very carefully and let it dry out after washing, and shake dry after oiling but before using and that takes too much time to do properly as needed in the field or unexpectedly. Just keep a spare air filter just in case as these can go bad if they get dry from extended off road use over the years on rare occasions. I plan on buying another air filter so I do not need to service mine if it needs it by some freaky unexpected thing. Id hate to see the world end and then have my only K&N air filter go bad. With a spare I can service my air filter at leisure or just buy another one without stressing for the rest of my car's life! I only use K&N air filters on all my cars for over 30 years and notice how much better then work in all my cars. It is worth it just for the power performance increase alone and gives better gas mileage. My Camry is fast.

Yet another good filter product from K&N
I've had K&N air filters on my vehicles for many years. In the old days, they both improved mileage and performance. Now with computer controlled air/fuel mixture, they don't generally improve mileage, but they do improve performance. My car, a 2016 RAV4, is just over a year old and has about 12,000 miles on it, so I'm very familiar with how it accelerates with the stock filter. After a few miles of driving for the computer to reset itself, the K&N does appear to provide a noticeable gain in acceleration. That's a "seat of the pants" reaction, because I haven't timed it. One of the attributes of all K&N replacement filters is that they always fit, exactly, and the rubber seal around the edges of the filters are soft and pliable, guaranteeing that no air gets past the filter. While they cost about 3 times what a standard paper filter costs, the extra performance and the reusability of the filters makes them a worthwhile purchase. Cleaning them is not much of a chore, using the K&N filter recharging kit.

Recommendation: Do your research before deciding
I picked this up for a new (to me) car. After ordering it, I discovered some info about particle size allowed by this filter; allegedly this filter allows larger amounts to flow past the filter and into the engine. Given that I prefer to keep my vehicles maintained well to maximize longevity, I decided to go with a different filter. I received it in perfect condition, it appeared to be a good fit, and I liked the idea of being able to clean it instead of having to purchase more filters.

Noticeable Mileage Improvement
I have a 2016 RAV4 XLE and keep it in Eco mode all the time. I don't think I've really noticed extra horsepower from this filter, or if I did, I might've just been imagining it. I always pay close attention to the mileage I'm getting and I have noticed an increase of maybe around 3 MPG on the highway. City driving doesn't show any improvement. I think I used to average about 27, maybe 28 MPG on the highway at about 75-80 MPH, but now I'm averaging right around 30, sometimes close to 31 MPG going the same speeds. I am happy with the performance and quality of the filter and am sure it will save me money over the life of my car.
