More sleep! No more creepy toddler pre-dawn stares!
So much more sleep! Our toddler is an early riser - like 5am early rise. We, the parents, don't always love tackling the day quite so early, so we were at quite the impasse. Even with access to lots of toys and books, toddler still wanted (early) morning attention and conversation... and the bedtime routine was sometimes a little rough. We were getting kid of desperate. Then... this clock. This glorious, wonderful, magical clock. Full disclosure, this isn't going to work for everyone and every toddler. Ours happens to enjoy routine and structure, so this clock is basically worth its weight in gold. If you have a toddler that does well with routines, this is the clock for you! We use it for the following: - Staying in bed - this is huge in the morning! Toddler has to stay in bed until it turns orange. We still have to set it fairly early (otherwise toddler is prone to wetting the bed after waking or just lays there, bored for too long). But we're pretty certain that it has encouraged more sleep as toddler wakes up around 5, sees that it's still blue, and dozes for another hour. We used the alarm feature on the weekdays when we needed to get going, but we stopped that, since toddler wakes up before that anyway and we try to encourage more sleep whenever possible. - Nap Times - having a separate nap feature is awesome! Even when toddler gives up naps (we dread the day, but, like winter, we know it's coming), we plan on enforcing 'quiet time' or 'feet off floor time' to give parents a break and active toddler a needed rest. Since toddler is very used to having to stay in bed while the clock is blue, we foresee a fairly easy transition. But the nap timer actually made nap times easier, as toddler knows the routine and knows that once the clock is on, they have to stay in bed. - Time out - love that this can be customized and it does a small beep when the time out is over. Sadly, our toddler figured out the 'secret' (eye roll) method of button clicking to change it back to orange, so we've had to put it up on a high shelf during time outs (the battery feature comes in especially handy then). - 'Encourage' - to be honest, we've only used this once or twice, and we tried it for potty training (didn't really work - toddler is stubborn, but whatever). If we really needed to focus on a particular activity, it could come in useful - perhaps set for 5 minutes and kids have to clean up or do something as long as it's green? Not sure, but even if we don't use it now, I'm sure we'll find a use down the road! - White noise - we're not white noise all the time type of folks - we don't want to be dependent on that to sleep. But we do have a few minutes of white noise to transition from the music to sleep. If we were sleeping in a different environment away from home, we might use more white noise. Either way, it's a great option to have! Cons - (There has to be something!) I do wish there were more story/music options. I think the 'story' for bed time is super lame, but toddler doesn't seem to mind. I would like to change it up, but it seems like all the music is the same, so I'm not paying a bunch of extra money to hear a slightly different, lame 'story' for 10 minutes. We read to toddler anyway, we just use the story feature as a signal that lights should be off and sleep is imminent. Honestly, this clock is super functional and allows for a ton of customization, which is why we coughed up a few extra dollars over the other popular toddler clocks. We've really loved all the features feel like this has really helped us get more sleep for everyone involved. Most toddlers wants to do the right thing, and if you can start them young enough (maybe 18 months? depending on the kid), I think this really sets a tone and great expectations for sleep. Good night and good luck!

Great but needs Australian power cord option
Tot clock review Originally we bought as a child friendly (read unbreakable so our toddler can still touch & engage with the product) clock to introduce time to our almost three year old. The other features were a magical bonus!!!! Admittedly we don’t use the time out/in or nap features, but she’s so intrigued by the yellow & blue lights for sleep and awake. She lays quietly in her bed in the mornings until the light switches to yellow. That said, some nights she has a major meltdown because she doesn’t WANT to see the lights, in which case we simply turn them off. The same goes for the story & music. It would be great if the volume of these could go down a little lower than the lowest available but that could be she’s in a small room & has sensitive ears. The repetition of the four or five songs for half an hour or as long as you set it can get boring but that’s me as an adult. She may enjoy that though (when she’s not demanding I turn it off!) The clock & all its features could not be simpler to use. I didn’t even read the instructions. Very intuitive & straight forward. I had to look up two things since setting and that was how to turn the story/music off & how to restart the bedtime routine if we missed it. These processes are also extremely straightforward. Haven’t used batteries yet as we’ve got it plugged in so can’t comment on battery life. However, I must say I was disappointed when the item arrived to find the power cord was American and not compatible with Australian points!!!! That said, it was nothing our local Jaycar store couldn’t help with. The appropriate new cord cost $25 & came with a number of different sized connectors. So once converted to AU dollars plus postage & the cord, the clock set us back around $120. Some may consider this a little pricey for a child’s clock however we’re thinking it’s reasonable given we’re hoping to use it for a few more years yet. Our daughter loves telling me what numbers she can recognise on her clock & can tell me what time she thinks it is (30 o’clock usually). She loves her precious clock & the soft blue light it emits while she’s sleeping. Overall I would highly recommend this product.

This product is excellent. It's pricey but it has a lot of features and can be used for many years. So far, we only use it for bedtime, wake time, and nap time because our son is 2.5. He was having trouble adjusting to his new baby sister and was waking up at all hours of the night. How is a 2 year old supposed to know the difference between 5 am and 3 am?? We usually use a timer as a cue to transition for activities (telling when he hears the special sound, it's time to go inside, etc..) and he responds well to that so we figured the colors of the clock would help. We also like the idea of the clock because it is teaching him to self regulate. When we are winding down playing in his room before story time, he keeps checking the clock to see if it would be ok to pull out another toy to play with. We usually have our timer sound go off so he can clean up before it turns blue. Once it turns blue, he announces it really loud and grabs his books to read before getting in bed. In the morning he announces "IT'S YELLOW!!" (Although one morning he told us the clock must be broken because it wasn't yellow yet…) The trick is to set the wake up time as close the time the child is already waking up, that way they feel successful. Then add a few minutes every week. The clock has emergency features so even if it's not the set time you have programmed (very easy to program!) you can click the top buttons and change the color immediately. This is perfect for crazy days when the schedule just has to change but you don't want the kid to know that! we try to distract him while adjusting it so he doesn't see we are really in control. We can see ourselves using more features as time goes on. There is a green light for "encouragement" - we don't know what it means but you can set it to be green for a certain amount of time. This feature is not one that is pre programmable but you can do it spontaneously. Our plan is to use it when he's potty training and goes in the middle of the night… so he has until the clock stops being green to get back in bed and finish up. It has a red time out feature, story time, music, etc. When I go back to work, we will also use the wake up alarm feature. It plays a song for however long you set it for to get them awake. The clock is very easy to use, cute, light, and helpful.

Let's say you were buying this so your boys could have same clock...
Let's say you were buying this so your boys could have same clock... Your oldest has the older version. You think "hey it's cool, it'll be same thing so they won't fight over it." Wrong. Fail. Right now I've got two tantrumming toddlers because they both want the new and improved clock. Save me! Bring me wine! Okay all joking aside, these clocks are awesome. I did like the size of the old version better. This one is smaller. The great thing about this version though is that the controls for changing time are behind the face panel... My sons LOVE changing times on the old clock. I'm glad it's a bit harder to reach but I'm sure they could figure out how to get the front panel off if they had enough time to mess around with it (I've got a 3.5 and 1.5 year old). It's very easy to set, no instructions needed, and there's battery backup for the plug. Battery backup is key here if you have power outages in your area... My first son lives by his clock now. He's had his since he was 18 mo or so and he knows he stays in his room until the light is yellow. I think it was helpful for sleep training him and he seemed to understand what colors meant pretty early (with parent explanation). You can control settings and time for bedtime, nap, discipline, rewards, etc. This new version lets you set different wake/bed times for weekends vs weekdays which is neat... We won't use it because our kids will be on same schedule everyone day (I wish they'd sleep in on Saturdays!), but for some kids it might work very well. When you want to discipline them (time out), you can press the red button.., it'll set up a timer and red face for however long you set it for. I do 1 min per year old (so my oldest gets 3 minutes). Green light is for rewards... Press that for special reward time (ie. 1:1 time with parent, screen time etc). Dark blue is bedtime and light blue is nap time. If you set bedtime at 6:30pm but one night the kids *need* to go down early, you can press the dark blue early (wink). If the kids are breaking down tired, we will sometimes run upstairs for bedtime ahead of them to hit the blue button so they don't get fussy about it not being bedtime. "Oh look the light is blue!" Lol. I tried another clock on market and wasn't a fan. It wasn't an easy to setup. I think these clocks are amazing and awesome. They make great gifts for parents too, if they don't already have something. Note: Picture I added is comparison between new version of clock and old version. Smaller one is the new one. Definitely takes up less space but I do like the big size for my sons' ages. I added this video to YouTube to demonstrate how these clocks work and to compare the newer and older version. I went with this one and I am very glad I did
After weeks of reading reviews and researching various toddler alarm clocks, I went with this one and I am very glad I did. The instructions are a bit difficult to understand, but it only took me a few minutes of playing around with the clock to figure it out for myself. I love the available settings (Weekday Wake Time as well as Weekend Wake Time, for example). From the first day of using the clock, my toddler was intrigued by the color changing feature. He had been waking up earlier and earlier, and I had been totally unable to get him to sleep later in the morning. He would bang on his bedroom door until one of us got up to let him out. So the first morning with the clock, I set it to change colors just 30 minutes later than he had awoken the previous day. This was still an earlier time than I wanted, but in my experience toddlers do well with baby steps. I had to go in and point to the clock repeatedly, explaining that it was not time to get up yet. We stayed in his room together until it turned orange, then I acted very excited about it as I led him out of the room. The second morning he did not bang on his door, and when I peeked into the room he pointed at the clock and jabbered at me. He played happily in his room until I came back a few minutes later, and then when got excited about the whole thing again as we left the room. Fast forward a couple weeks, and his wake up time has improved. He no longer bangs on the door to get us up. There have been a few bumps along the way, but that is how it is with toddlers so we just roll with the punches. We do not use the music, or story settings because my son (recently turned 2-year-old) gets pretty distracted by such things. We leave the clock on the top of a tall dresser in his room, so that he can see but not reach it. Once he is a little older, and less destructive, we will get it down for him to play with. Which leads me to my absolute favorite feature about this clock--the setting buttons are hidden behind the removable faceplate and therefore not within easy reach of curious little fingers. So even when we do allow him to play with the clock, he will not be able to change the settings. I recommend this clock to all of my friends. Even though it is one of the more expensive options out there, I am very happy with my choice.

Great Family Tool as We Adjust to our New Routine and Transition to Preschool
It took me 4-years to find a clock I liked enough to purchase for my child (now 4-y.o.). I first came across this clock before they released this new version. The old version was the closest at having the majority of the features I was looking for, but not my primary (digital AND analog display). Additionally, I was very hesitant on with the price; however, the features of the New & Improved model won me over and I'm not disappointed. My only dislike with this product is the "Treasure" cartridges. The clock comes with one (1) and there are others sold separately. The problem is that all the Treasure cartridges have the same music; the story changes, but there are no new songs to wake-up or go to sleep to. Due to this, I would appreciate the clock having a 3.5mm AUX input and hope the manufacturer includes this on a future upgrade. OUR USE Nap Time: When activated, my child has to stay in bed. Can sleep or have quiet time. Bedtime: We use it to launch into our good night routine. Typically end up restarting it, but for now, once the story starts it's time for us to settle in to do our bedtime game/story. Wake Time: My child is responsible for getting out of bed before the song ends (5-minutes). The morning routine of bathroom time and getting dressed must be completed before the yellow light goes off. Encouragement Time: I've started using this when it is time to get ready for bed. Finish with bathroom time before the light goes out. I also plan to start using this at meal time to help with some of the drawn out meals we have at times! Red=Time Out: I'm no longer tracking this time. The digital clock counts down how much time is left until this "activity" ends. BOTTOM LINE I'm glad I finally gave in and bought it. As we continue to use it, I find more and more ways to incorporate it into our routine. $50 is a lot for something that sits on a nightstand going unused most of the day, but My Tot Clock is more than that; it has become a resource to guide us through the entire day. I'm no longer the keeper of the time; my child can refer to the clock and know when certain activity periods have started and have completed, encouraging independence and in some instances, eliminating tension. --**CLOCK FEATURES**-- CLOCK I LOVE that it displays the time in both digital and analog! I find it to be a great great compliment to our other activities as we're in the early stages of teaching time. My child seems to feel more empowered with this clock as a tool when telling time, referencing both displays when doing so. The [most important control buttons] are located behind the faceplate!! Who, child or adult, wouldn't be tempted to go push-happy when presented with a crap load of buttons, especially ones that can result in color changes!! Putting them behind the faceplate is one less thing to have to fuss about. The faceplate is easy to remove and place back on (I also purchased another faceplate design that fits on with no problem). We don't treat the clock as a toy, so my child doesn't handle it much, though in the times she has, she doesn't seem to notice that the faceplate is removable, so haven't had any issues of her trying to gain access. The interchangeable faceplate also makes this something that can be handed down! POWER We use AC power when at beside and batteries when moving it around the house or travelling. Recently had a power outage; all the functions are available in battery power mode. There is an energy-saver feature that allows you to set an off time for yellow and blue lights (yellow, yellow & blue, off). If energy saver mode, the lights will go off after about an hour of the wake/sleep time/special activity time. There is also a power button to turn it off completely. So far, I have not experienced an issue of losing any of the settings when changing the power source or powering off. ACTIVITY SETTINGS Light Blue=Nap/Quiet Play Time Program a default duration (set hour: 1-12; minute: 00-59). Activate the feature using the light blue "manual override" button on the top of the clock. You can also use the button to silence the audio during the routine. Set story: on/off; Set music: off, all [night til wake time], or 15-60 minutes (15-min increments). Blue=Bedtime Set the time of day you want the bedtime routine to begin (all week). There is an option to override and re/start bedtime earlier/later if needed by using the blue "manual override" button on the top of the clock. You can also use the button to silence the audio during the routine. Set story: on/off; Set music: off, all [night til wake time], or 15-60 minutes (15-min increments). Yellow=Wake Time Set the time you want the wake time routine to begin (set time for weekday and weekend). The music will end after 5-minutes; the yellow remains depending on your energy-saver settings (stays on til bedtime light comes on; stays on for an hour if energy saver on). There is an option to override and re/start wake time earlier/later if needed by using the yellow "manual override" button on the top of the clock. You can also use the button to silence the audio during the routine. Green=Encouragement Time Program a default duration (set hour: 1-12; minute: 00-59). Activate the feature using the green "manual override" button on the top of the clock. Red=Time Out Program a default duration (set hour: 1-12; minute: 00-59). Activate the feature using the red "manual override" button on the top of the clock. TOT CLOCK TREASURE The included cartridge plays: Wake: If You're Happy and You Know It... (Duration: 5-minutes) Sleep: Story-It's Night Night Time; Lullabies-Rockabye Baby, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star; Brahm's Lullaby; Hush Little Baby; Instrumental (10-minute, loops). White Noise: I'm not quite sure what this noise is. I've had a few products that did white noise, but this one had to go right away. Couldn't stand it, so we don't use that feature.

Not Quite as Great as I Thought
I was excited about this clock - prior to purchasing it for my 5-year-old, we had a fan for white noise, a nightlight, and a digital clock, which she wasn't always comfortable reading herself. Oh yeah... and I was her alarm. This seemed to combine all of those things in one. It does an OK job, but there are a few things I didn't think about that you should be aware of: - The nighttime dark blue color makes it VERY difficult to read the clock. As in, you really can't unless your face is two feet from it. So if it's dark blue (ie nighttime), she can't see what time it is. - It would make a good night light, except you have to aim it at your kid so they can see the time, and that shines the color right in their face. My daughter does OK with it, but it's not exactly a diffuse light, is it? - If you use a white noise or music feature for nighttime, there really is no way to let your kid know it's OK to wake up without actually WAKING them up. So when it's the weekend, and we tell her she can get up any time after 6:30 but hope against all hopes she doesn't wake up til after 7... well, in order to switch from dark blue (the sleep color) to yellow (the OK to wake color), the white noise automatically shuts off. Which wakes her up. Conversely, if we set it to switch over at 7:30, "just to be safe," she lays in bed all confused forever because it's still dark blue, it's tough to read, and it's sending out white noise, so she thinks she's still supposed to be sleeping. The one thing I DO like about this clock is the alarm on school days. It plays "If you're Happy and You Know It" so obnoxiously and my 5 year old just LOVES it. So instead of my having to go up there and drag her out of bed, she comes bounding down the stairs in a great mood!

We love the Tot Clock
This is our second MyTot Clock. We bought the original one a few years ago and when it stopped working we purchased the new version. IMHO this is a wonderful training tool and great teaching clock for children. Visual cues are very helpful when used to help establish a routine for children. Toddlers do not yet have the ability to read a clock and therefore when explaining bedtime to them a standard clock would not be ideal. The MyTot Clock however, by offering visual cues via the color of the face of the clock does just that. The premise and set up are simple, Blue = Bed, Yellow = Awake, Light Blue = Nap, Green = Encouragement and Red = Time Out. As a parent you control the time settings, brightness of the clock, sounds (music and/or story), volume and brightness. Plus, you can manually start any setting using the buttons on top… So if you need an earlier bedtime one night you do not need to reset it. Living in the Sunshine State I am not able to use just the “it’s dark outside” reasoning with my 4yo as to why it is bedtime because during the summer the sun is out until about 8:30, which is after her bedtime. The face turning blue and the music coming on, in addition to the fact that the clock itself has helped us teach her how to read time, offer her both visual and auditory cues that it is time to bounce in to bed and go to sleep. I simply ask her “what color is the clock” and she smirks and says “I know mommy, its bedtime”. The music portion also helps if you have a child who never wants you to leave. I tell her I will stay through x amount of the songs and then I have to go, this has been a HUGE help The battery backup is also fantastic in case of power outage, travel /portability or for time out purposes (if you do not use your child’s room for time out. The new MyTot Clock design of relocating the controls to the front of the clock under the faceplate is a very welcomed improvement. Because the controls are not easily visible children are far less likely to change the settings by playing with the controls, like our daughter did with the first one. I do recommend setting it when your child is not present so that they are less likely to try and remove the faceplate :) I do wish that there were a few lower volume options as I find that even the lowest setting can be a little loud in a quiet room, but I am very sensitive to noise. That is my only criticism and it would not prevent me from buying another one. I frequently recommend this to friends and acquaintances and we plan on using it with our twins as well now that they are turning two. Pros: I like that the buttons are now under the face plate vs on the back like they used to be. This helps prevent my 4yo from playing with the settings like she did before. I love that it provides a visual cue especially for bedtime, awake time and the option for music and stories. I love that the brightness has several levels, which is quite nice and that the display has both clocks which is useful in teaching a toddler to read time. Battery back up. Cons: I do wish that there was a lower volume option than it currently has because even the quietest setting is a little loud for my liking in a quiet room.
